With the GB 311291's I have had excellent acuracy with 10 grs. Unique. Standard Fed pistol primers. Around 1/2" for 5 at 50 yds.

I've had good luck with 10.0gr Unique pushing an RCBS 30-180-FN's.

My brother's favorite 30-30 plinker is the Lyman 311008 plainbase boolet, sized .310, loaded with 8.5 gr. Unique. this boolet was originally intended for use in 32-20, but sized bigger for that application. Don't know the velocity, and haven't tried it in my own rifle. In a 94 carbine there are no pressure signs, leading, or recoil, and it seems to shoot minute-of clay-pigeon fragment all day long.

How would this perform as a hunting load on deer?

It's my understanding a bullet should have at least 1,000 ft-lb of energy at muzzle for deer hunting. For a 170 grain bullet this is about 1600 fps. A 150 grain bullet should be just a tad over 1700 fps to have the same 1,000 ft-lb of muzzle energy.
