A 36- prefix is the large frame probably manufactured during the period from 1983-88

The new model small frames are 3-digit prefixes.,

Please double check the gun or your typing.

ALL of the Ruger Blackhawks in .45 cal start with a 4X-XXXXX serial number,, NOT any with a 36 or 38. The .357 magnums use the 3X-XXXXX prefix numbers.

If the gun has a 36 or a 38 prefix in the serial number,, and is a .45 cal,, it has been customized & converted.

I just picked up a New one a New Model Blackhawk with sights a 45 with a 5 1/2" Barrel and it also has a 38 prefix but the frame is not marked like the one I sold so the casting is a little different but I can't tell how much and the grip seems to feel the same size. But? ?? Ruger web site shows shipped in 2018 current production model. all 6 cyl throats measure .452

Ty, all the NM Blackhawks on the large frame have been run into the 38-xxxxx serial number range. Used to be the numbers for 357 models, but Ruger is now running all the large SAs in that range. The new 10mm Blackhawks, my new stainless 6.5'' 41, 45 convertible, etc all have SNs starting with 38-xxxxx. Don't like it at all. Used to be able to tell what was what by SN.
