The S&Ws are the better guns and at least you can get parts for them and fix them, unlike the Taurus!

I got a S&W Model 64 HB from another source several years ago. It has been one of my favorite handguns. I've not done a thing to it except put a set of switched out mag stocks on it. Plan to replace those sometime.

Go with the Smith, as Outpost mentioned. Can be fixed locally, parts are available and A/M accessories like grips abound.

If it was me for to choose if both are able to get, I would also go with the S&W ,beside what Outpost stated.

I bought a S&W 64 a few weeks ago from AIM. Outside had typical PD wear, action itself showed very little wear and had characteristic older S&W wonderful single and double action trigger pulls. Mine came with original S&W wood grips. It's stainless, so no worries about finish wear or rust.

No MIM parts, no universally hated external lock. They literally don't make them like this anymore, and probably never will. K frame Smith's just feel right and are very accurate, I like it a lot.

Definitely worth looking into if you are considering a revolver.

I would love to have one of the Smith's. Heat pump blew up yesterday so there went my gun money.

Oops, they’re gone already! Just got an email from AIM they have (had) a small amount of S&W model 66 trade ins, 2 1/2” barrel stainless .357 K-frame w/ target sights.

Those went quick!

That email hadn't been in my inbox long before I went to the AIM site and found "Out of Stock". I would have loved to have one.

Apparently they received a new shipment. I ordered one today $359.00+tax+USPS

Don't hesitate.

Just went to the AIM site. Only S&W 66's I found were $629.95. Not quite a bargain.

My mistake. My mind was on the #64 HB. I needed another one.

My 64-1 arrived yesterday. It's a little rough from holster wear. Replacing the grips will make a big improvement in appearance. The accumulated dings in the SS finish can be improved with some careful work with a flat surface/1000 grit emery paper (I prefer worn paper). It will never be a beauty, but will look better. The inventory number or badge number "66" is stamped on the left side.

Cylinder gap=.008 (tight)
End shake=.002 (tight)

No flame cutting & forcing cone looks good: in fact I don't think it's been fired much. No carbon build-up @ cyl. throats & bbl. cleaned up with a few strokes with the bronze brush & 2 patches with CLP.

The grip pin (@ lower grip frame) is missing. I think I'll try to locate a roll pin the correct dia. & trim it to the proper length.

The SA is perfect. The DA can be improved with very little effort.

I'm happy. Thanks to Texas by God for alerting us to these. I've been checking Classic Firearms daily looking for one.

I have bought several hundred revolvers and pistols in my life, not including when I was in the bussiness. Maybe fifty were bought new. I've always saved my money for the better guns and took my time looking. Seems like there use to be a big price difference between S&W, Colt & Ruger and the second rate guns that more less copied them. Today it's fairly easy to find a good shooter for the price of a new 2nd rate gun. It may not look as nice but has more value as a shooter as well as money value.
