I don't know if this is off topic or not but I just would like to get some input on this.
I just got done with my first M1A Garand Match to day. I scored 256 out of 300. I think that this is good:confused: . This was only the theard time I shot this rifle. I hope to inprove next time. I think the winner scored 279. Iwas using Greek ammo I got at the match. I wonder if I would do better if I reloaded? Lots of fun and good times being around the same minded people. Would you belive that I packed all my clips with ammo and binos in a bag and left it at the house. A guy I had rebarrel my gun was there and he let me use 2 clips and ammo (Thanks Charlie). I don't know but is my score ok ? Great fun can't wait to go to the next one. :Fire:

Damright that's a good score, especially using borrowed stuff, and being as it was your first time out. The M1 can be a little demanding under stress. And, if you had a good time, you set a base to compete against yourself in future. WELL DONE!

I dont stress never did even in the Army (wish my knees didn't give out on me:groner::violin: I know) I was the First Sargent's driver and the CO selected marksman or personal sniper just not trained (most people don't know selected marksman but do understand sniper Iwas not a sniper I have a great respect for them, but we had about the same job I just didn't need to hide and used standard M16. I hate people that clam to be some thing they were not ie seal, sniper, and so on I never met a cook out side the Army:confused:) but I thank you for your input:drinks:

The main thing is - YOU COMPETED! And were successful! (didn't shoot anyone, or shoot yourself, so it was a successful day!)

Our club shoots CMP Garand Matches at 200 yards. Back in 1982, we used to shoot Garand Matches , with .30 M2 ammo, at 200-300 and 500 yards. We also shot our Vintage BA Military Rifles at the same distance.

Congratulations on your first Garand Match. I fired my first US Army "LEG" Match at Ft. Smith, NY. The 1903-A3 was still a legal service rifle.

Doug Bowser I would like to know something I have a chance to shoot another match it's going to be at 200 and 300yds. Using the Greek ammo you wouldn't know the drop would you?

No problem. If you have a 100 yard zero, go up 2 MOA or 2 clicks for 200 yards with the standard service sights. From 200 to 300 yards go up an additional 3 clicks.

Have fun,

Doug

I'm trying to fgure out what you mean by M1A Garand. I thought the M1A was a civilian M14, and the M1 was a Garand. Not trying to be picky, but maybe I'm misunderstanding something.
