Greetings
50+ years ago I had a Marlin 336 in 32 Win. Special that had a hinged scope mount that was attached to the receiver top. Spring clips held it in the shooting position. With a pull to the left the whole scope hinged off to the left which made the iron sights available for use. It was a fine fox / groundhog setup.
Now I cannot remember the name of those mounts. Anyone have an idea ? Thank you .

Pachmayr (sp?) low swing I think.

I have two of them in my stash of stuff. I will see if there is a name on there.

I like them also.

Weaver also made them if I remember correctly. Called them a Tip-Off mount. I have heard them called Flip mounts. I think the Pachmayr mount was call a Swing mount. My Dad had a set on a Remington 742 at one time. Held zero pretty good for 100 yard work or so. I don't think they would be great for 600 yards or so, they don't also return to exact point of aim, but would return close enough that if you missed your deer at 100 yards of so, it was your fault and not the mount. my memory may not be that great on the exact names though, I am getting pretty old, james

"Echo" also made that style of "swing mount" for many guns ...

The one that came on my Marlin/Glenfield 36G 30-30 was made by Weaver. I sold that gun to my nephew; when I bought it back the mount was gone, dangit. It made for a neat setup.

.

The Weaver Pivot Mounts (google) were side hinged with a spring clip on the side of the rings opposite the hinge to secure them in shooting position to the mount base.

Just did some fishing out in the big E pool and saw a Redfield Swing Over that sure looks like what I had on that Marlin.

Yes.
My dad had a 336 30-30 with that system on it. He liked it a lot. It worked great, no issues.

I believe this is what you are referring to...

And the redfields....

244201

244202

The Redfield had larger swivel pin bases with 4 segments. The weavers, still beefy, had 3 segments. That is why I went with the weavers, less bulk sticking out. Also, the weavers seemed to be first with them and the redfields copied, and possibly improved, depending on your perspective. Also, the redfields I believe had a single long base spanning the length of the mount, while the weaver had small bases that did not span the length of the base...

Go get em tiger!!
