View Full Version : Trigger pull flintlock

Can anyone give me advice on how to reduce the pressure needed to fire an old flintlock? It is a lot harder to pull than others similar to it. It’s really hard!

I know some guns end up with soft springs, but mine is harder to cock than anyone else’s. Could too much spring pressure be causing the trigger pull problem? All parts have been cleaned and polished and lubed with a light oil.

It’s a French 1777 .69cal from 1815.

Thanks

Thanks, I checked the link, but don’t think that’s my problem.

It is a military gun and was not made for a good trigger pull, that's to start. In addition the tumbler notch is cut too deep and the sear is probably not square. The sear springs are too stiff by half. A good smooth 4 pound pull is doable but takes time and experience. If the trigger is hung off the plate as are most of the repro's that is another problem.

If I had the gun or just the lock here in about 3 hours it would be fixed.

I agree. I think the sear spring is too tight. How do you change that?
