Would there be a feeding problem if I changed the barrel to 6.5 x 55, length looks ok and rim is close, dia looks ok, it's the feed ramps I wonder about.

Should be OK. I re-barreled a Mauser 30/06 to 6.5x55 without an issue.

You may need to try different followers if it doesn't want to feed.

I discovered that some of the Mark X Mausers have a different thread count than is expected on a typical Model 98 action. Just a heads-up
