I'm ladle casting with a Lee 4 lb pot. After three sessions now, there's a yellowish-brown film all along the inside of my pot. It doesn't seem to affect subsequent castings, but do I leave the pot in this condition or should I try to clean this film off of the pot after each casting? If it requires a cleaning, what should I use to clean off this film?

I let mine build up till its 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick then take a screwdriver and scrape it off. It doesn't seem to hurt casting at all, just one of those things you have to live with I guess.

The bad news is that the yellow deposit is lead oxide and (maybe others too). The good news is they are water soluable and may be remove by filling the cold, empty pot with boiling water and scrubbing the sides with a wire brush. An old toothbrush isn't good for this as it won't stand up to the hot water. Repeat as necessary.

You can use CFF for a cleaner pot.
