Not a government armory. Search for Golden State Arms and Santa Fe Springfields.

Santa Fe did a lot of rebarreled Enfields in 45/70.

If it's one of their '03s, dont bother. They have a reputation of blowing up. If the action (receiver) was made by Remington or SC (if an 03a3), you're good to go.

It was at a gun show, wasn't going to buy it, just never saw one before.

They are U.S. G.I. surplus parts assembled onto aftermarket receivers. Best avoided.

they also made alot of "jungle carbines", and alot of guys were trying to sell them as real ones. you could tell them from a distance by the flash hider , it was wrong shape

Not all of the stuff they sold was junk, at least if you are not offended by a sporterized military rifle. They sold some nicely converted Lee Enfields and Mausers. As far as the Springfields go, they did use almost all surplus military parts except the receivers, which were not available, so they had their own made. Most guys consider the Springfields to be questionable.

They did sell a lot of Jungle Carbines and some folks say they are the ones that coined the term as the Brits (as I understand it) called the rifle the No. 5 and did not refer to it as a Jungle Carbine.

I have a couple of their Lee Enfields and have had several of their Mausers, but I would not buy their Springfield.

I bought one of there JUNGLE CARBINES and it was a cut up #4. no way did it look like one. and when I shot it the flash hider fell off! it was held on with some kind of epoxy? what a piece of ****!

Ran into one of their Springfields and there was a visible casting ridge at the rear of the receiver where mold had come together....run FROM them! IMO, of course.

they are good if you need parts like a barrel or bands sights. but to shoot no way and this from a guy that shoots low number 03's.

I have one of their Jungle Carbines. It has a 2 groove barrel that I shot a bunch of corrosive ammo out of and made a great truck gun.

We have a Santa Fe 1873 in 44WCF that us a fine rifle. So far in comparing parts with our other real 1873's every part interchanges in the receiver. Biggest difference I found under the barrel was not dovetailed but soldered.

My BIL has a National Ordnance(had he died, my nephew has it) marked 03a3, investment cast receiver probably from same foundry. It has fired many rounds of 06 ammo with never a problem, came with 2 groove and I rebarreled it for him 25 years ago with a Wilson, shoots great.
