A while back, I got the idea of applying heat shrink around the unsized Lyman Foster slug to increase the OD. I finally got around to doing it and the results were “ehh”.

I only used one type of powder and I noticed that fold crimp performed a little better than roll crimper. I suspect it’s because the ogive is more pronounced since it’s undersized. Anyway, tell me what y’all think.

It could be the roll crimp interfered with the shrink tube? I would try a longer piece of tubing, covering part of the front and rear of the slug to prevent it from slipping.

I have used small diameter silicon rubber shrink tube for the prongs of the arrow rest on my compound bow. Using silicone rubber would no doubt reduce friction & heat during the trip down the barrel.

Did you ever get a chance to run those rifled foster slugs thru your gun(s) yet? I test fitted them and shot a few at the range (about 40 yards) and they worked ok (2 inch groups).

I was able to use them with a 12FS3 wad siting on a 20 gauge nitro card.
