First if I may ask why he Lyman cast book lists Unique for other 6.5 but not the Jap? Is there anyone here that does use it and if so what data do you have.
Thanks
Nick

Try 8.8 gr, that is what I use in my Norwegian Krag in 6.5x55 Swede. I used to use 7.8 gr but like the slightly larger powder charge in my rifle. Most Lyman data for 6.5s pushes the velocity to high exceeding the RPM limit.

Lee lists the case volume for 6.5X55 at 3.68 cc and the 6.5X50 at 2.66 cc's.
One may want to back off of the larger cases load commensurate with the reduced case volume.
6.6X50 volume is 0.72 times that of the 6.5X55.
6.5X50 volume is 0.87 times that of 5.5X52 Italian and there are also Unique loads there

Like most of you, Unique is a pretty universal powder for cast shooting but I would agree that Lyman didn't have much for the 6.5 x 50. I saw that only the Ideal #38 (1951) listed a 100 grain load with Unique for the 6.5 Japanese

I've loaded a lot of 6.5 & 7.7 Jap but never with cast. Never new anyone into shooting the japs other than for grins. Used cheapest jackets I could buy and loaded to military specs with 140gr and IMR-4895. The only brass I had for 6.5 jap was Norma. There was a time when a box of Norma was more than the value of a jap rifle. Vets that brought them home would get around to buying a box sooner or later. That's where all mine came from.
