Looking for a push thru sizer.

I was thinking and speaking with a friend today. I PC most of my cast bullets. So a Push thru works best for me. I have a couple 450’s and most all sizers I need. I have noticed LEE dosent have the sizes I want. I know Lee will custom make what I may need but costs outweigh practical needs. (Ill just size on the 450.)

I know NOE offers a die setup that I have thought about buying. It will do what I need no doubt.

I am wondering is someone makes a die that accepts the Lyman/RCBS sizers? In other words making a push thru out of a 450 sizer die?

Just for fun I made a long nose punch for my 450 and removed the lower push back rod on the lower end and used it like a push through. Worked fine though one would need to make a chute to catch the sized boolits at the exit.

After the initial cost of the die body, these are cheaper, easier to store and have a lot more sizes to choose from. They also have nose sizers.

cigarman on here was selling a kit that converts your 450 to a push through sizer, I got one of the proto types and it worked just as he said it would. had a ramp that diverted the boolit to a tube that you could dump into a bucket and you fed it nose first from the top, worked just fine for me.

I save old rusty loading dies and anneal them and bore and hone them to custom sizing dies. I also made an adapter for using Lyman dies as a push through. You don't really need to reharden them for lead bullets.

Contact ammohead he made my adaptor for lyman and rcbs sizers and they work great, don't remember what he charged but it was worth it .

I vote for the N.O.E works great and takes up very little space. One of the best purchases of reloading related stuff, I made last year.

Yes I know of the NOE and its on the radar!

But I am very invested in the Lyman. (Many of us are.) @ nearly 30$ a pop plus top punches!! Just thinking this would be a very cost effective way to utilize the sizers I/We already own!

I modify my lee sizing die my self it is very easy to do . I just use a wooden dowel split about an inch or so ( just saw a slot in one end ) put in drill press or drill wrap wet dry paper around it add a little oil and work die up and down while drill runs check often because you can't put materials back. Very easy to inlarge .003 or so.

Unless your independently wealthy or just hit the mega millions. That just dosent make any sense.

Keep “practicing” finance there tater head... Ill continue to use things I bought to use until they break or become unusable, THEN I will Replace or upgrade them. ;-)

Want a push thru sizer? Buy a Star or Magma sizer.

I use the NOE system with very good success. The only problem I have with it is that since it screws into the press from the bottom, the bushing is too low in the cycle making the action outside of the power stroke. Some harder or larger boolets take some force to get through the die and on my Rock Chucker it is near the start of handle movement, not after the handle starts it's downward arc and you can get some weight on it.

Just use your 450 - I use 3D printed nose punches and have sized serval thousands without issue (and no breakage on the punch)

If you don't have access to a 3D printer you can make a guide out of cardboard (you don't need an extended punch but it helps to remove the last bullets)

Edit - if you do have access to a 3D printer and need a custom nose punch let me know. I can model them up relatively easily from a (good) picture or drawing.

Reloading press Adaptor die for Lyman/RCBS sizing dies:
I recall someone using the die body of a Lee collect style FCD...it may need to be reamed/honed out a bit?
you'd still want some longer punches.
I would have investigated this farther, except that I bought a kit custom made by theperfesser.

I was half way funning with ya CW. The point is that if you could get a NOE setup for $45 (and less than that for each successive diameter)that suits your purpose well vs paying a guy to mod a Lyman sizer to push through. Lets say each costs the same. Which solution suits you the most?

But thats just it... Modding of the sizer seems needless. Just push the pin out and create something to hold the die and push bullets thru... I could do this if I had a lathe. A set screw could hold the die in place. The die would be threaded 7/8-14 so it fit a std reloading press.

I kinda surprised no commercial company hasn't already done this.

Yea I know all about the NOE. As I said in my first post. But I have every size LYMAN SIZER, I could need already paid for in a box on my bench @ 20-30$ each...

I have something in the works. Hoping to see it soon and Ill know if this will work.

The NOE is a fall back. We all KNOW that will work.
