I called Lyman this morning looking for a 610 top punch. They didn't have one. Would any of the cast and crew here have a Lyman 610 they would part with? I picked up a NIB 410459 (the store had two of them) mould a couple weeks ago that had a 610 punch with it. It turned out to be an RCBS 610. It is way too huge for the 410459. Now I have 1000 bullets cast and no top punch. Oh woe is me. Thanks. Mart

There are a lot of top punches there right now, some of great antiquity.

You can pot a dab of epoxy puddy on another top punch. Put it in the sizer and let it dry with very light pressure on the bullet. Works fine on seater dies to. ....Buck

buck1,

I don't know why I didn't think of that. Thanks for the idea. I will give it a go.

Bodydoc447,

I have the #43 but the depth is to shallow and the diameter to big. The 410459 has a longer nose to it than the 410610. The nose of the 410610 is also straight (like a truncated bullet) where the 410459 is radiused so the 43 is a poor fit.

buck1,

I tried your epoxy method. It worked great. Thanks for the advice.

For all my flat nosed bullets (and that includes the 410610), I use a flat top punch. You can do this two ways. Buy a Lyman #348 TP (they're still listed) or else make a flat top punch to your specs by turning down a 5/16" hex head bolt on either a drill press or a lathe.

Usually one turned to about .358" will fit all of the bigger bullet ogives.

The beauty of this rig is there's no "ring around the collar" or bullet nose./beagle
