A day late . . but one flies every day of the year.

We moved from our place on the farm (where I always had a free standing flag pole) in to a condo in town a couple of years ago. A flag was one of the first things to go up. I'm sure that this is done in many many communities, but the scouts took on a flag project here where for $50 a year (a contribution which goes to the local scouting programs), they put up a 3 X 5 flag in your yard for all of the special days - Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, etc. The flags usually go up at least 3 - 4 days prior to the day and are usually collected 3 - 4 days after the day. Each year, there are more of them up and it is really something to drive around our small community and see the flags flying and to have visitors and those driving through see the same. A worthwhile project for the scouts that also teaches them the importance of the flag and a good way for the community to support a worthwhile group.
