Beretta u22 neos problem

A fellow shooter asked me to look at his u22.
The firing pin will not stay cocked. It appears that the safety or the sear is stuck, but I can't get the firing pin out to check these items. The safety lever moves freely externally but the sear doesnt move when the trigger is pulled
Any ideas?

I acquired on of these last winter that has a problem that may be similar to yours. Mine would fire the first shot, but then the sear would not engage. I found that if I grasped the trigger from each side, between my thumb and finger, bulling it back till it fired and then immeadiatly pushed it forward, it would engage. I concluded that the trigger return spring was not strong enough and planned to replace it with a stronger spring. It has not been a priority, so it is still waiting for me to get around to replacing the spring and testing my theory.
