I have noticed some use round and some use a square shaped container.

Is there a benefit in using either?

Also, what volume container to what weight of bolts would be adequate?

NB Sorry , meant shaking

I can imagine pros and cons to both, but what I use are nut containers from Costco that have flat sides and four rounded corners. I think the corners make for a good tumbling action. I don't have one in front of me but I think the bottom is about 10 by 12 cm and the sides are a bit over 15 cm tall. It holds the 2.5 kilo batch of boolits with room to spare, and is easy to hang on to while shaking.

ETA: Sorry, I didn't notice you are Down Under. Has Costco or Walmart invaded you yet? Anyway, the warehouse type stores carry nuts in these big plastic screw top jars as I described, which is an excuse for me to stuff my face in order to get the storage containers I need in my workshop.

Don't forget grains of powder instead of grams or ounces.

nothing... I grew up with feet and inches. now metric.
I work with timber and always have a dual scale tape measure.

I drive people crazy when I say I need 4x2 12ft3" and 3mm long.......

We get a lot of old people come in looking to match old timber. that is where imperial measure comes in handy. they just don't think in metric.

3mm long 2x4, now that’s weird and quite short too.

Do you work with any QS figured woods like Blackwood, Tiger Myrtle, SheOak or Queensland Maple?

All Aussie Hardwoods, Spotted Gum, Ironbark, Brush Box, Tallow Wood, Grey Gum, Black Butt... all very hard and beautiful timbers.

The weird thing is, i machine stuff in imperial, yet measure other stuff in metric.... Stuffed if i know why, but eh, it works for me.

You siring up people mixing metric and imperial does not surprise me at all. I too like doing stuff like that to people to see the reaction, i do it to members of my club all the time, they know i'm messing with them, but the look of are you serious? :)

Those are some fine hard woods, not as easy or cheap to get here now. Houses used to be all hard wood frames, now pine or steel. Americans call some wood hard wood, i swear our pine is harder :)

We supplied hardwood frame to brisbane back in the 70's and 80's. then pine took over.
We had a hardwood roof truss plant at Wacol and a wholesale yard at Jindalee.

For a short time I worked at that Wacol plant. I am sure you realise the term hardwood does not really mean how hard the wood is, Balsa is a hardwood. But our timbers are hard. Regards Stephen

yeah. Cell structure etc etc defines the difference.
I did 4 years wood science studies (40 odd years ago) and some of that info actually stuck in my brain..

Square container with rounded corners, the flat sides interupt the slide-in-a-circle effect and "tumble the casts. Same qty and mills as Ausglock.

This is true. A round bowl needs different moves to properly shake and tumble, circular "swirl" only won't cover them boolits good.

Having said that,my bowls are round. But if I was making large amounts I would change.

I use round containers and start with swirling for a few seconds then start flipping the bullets like tossing a salad.
