So a new sideloading Henry in 38-55 followed me home today. I have not shot it yet, but I can comment that this thing is built like a tank. The action is stiff to say the least. Hopefully it loosens up over time. I will post a range report when I get her sighted in.

Congrats on the new Henry! I was at a LGS the other day that had a whole rack Henrys in different calibers/models. I got to look at the 30-30 model of the rifle you got. I admit it looked different from what you expect to see a Henry to look like. Just not used to see a side gate on them yet. LOL I can see how a lot of folks will like them now that they can load 'em that way - the nice feature (at least I thought) is that it gives you the option of either using the side gate or the tubular magazine - and the tubular magazine will make unloading easy instead of racking the rounds out if you choose to use it.
I enjoyed looking it over and it wasn't the only one I looked at - came home with a Henry Big Boy steel in 357 - the rifle version. Enjoy that new rifle and will be anxious to hear how it shoots!

So I went to the range this weekend. Best group I could get and repeat was a 255 grain JFP moving at 1810FPS to group five shots around 2 inches at 105 yards. That was with a scope and a rest. Loaded up some new rounds with varying COAL and powder steps lets see how she does.

I just got one of these a couple of months back. Refuses to open far enough to use the loading gate.

????? The lever is supposed to be closed when using the gate. Maybe I misunderstand?

To smooth it up, work the lever thousands of times while watching Saturday westerns. Un loaded of course. 2” at 105 yards with stomper loads sounds good to me!
