a very rare original 1889 re designed.with the front(more forward) locking lugs as a 1889/96 model that did not get turned into the 1896 / 11.
I believe only about 1,200 of these did not get converted to the 1911 type , this one was a private ownership gun as you can see a Crest from a previous Swiss owner.

It shoots really good. The bore is tight but the throat is giant for the original paper patch loads they had.

Lovely rifle, Harry. Even those older Schmidt Rubins have the surgical-quality triggers -- at least the ones I have handled.

VERY NICE Arm! I especially like original Swiss arms and have the M1889, 1911 and 1931. I bought my M1889 in 1961 for $15.00 at age 16. I mowed many lawns to start my vintage arms collection. My M1911 rifles and carbines, as well as the M1931, like my cast boolits.
