Death in the family

My step-children's father, Bob Newcombe, died suddenly last Friday. I tried to resuscitate him, but he was too far gone. We are all a little shook up about it. Please keep the Newcombe family in your prayers.

We are getting the house cleaned out, and I am helping Lily's dad, Eric, get into an apartment for he and Lily, my granddaughter. They had been living with Bob. I'm getting to use my case management skills again. Hopefully they can move in next week.

Yesterday, Eric and Lily got the keys to their new apartment. Three weeks after finding Bob dead and losing his housing, Eric has a new place to live. It's a beautiful place in a well-maintained complex. There are kids in the same building for Lily to play with, and a playground across the parking lot. I talked with Eric about the miraculous nature of this gift of housing; he agreed, and said he had just been trying to do the right thing.

We have been keeping Lily at our house for a little while; it's been fun getting back into the routine of child-rearing. Mostly fun.
