I have one. Do you need the rubber only, or the steel also?

Just curious. Anybody know if the "rubber" part was ever softer than
the "steel" part of #5 butt "pad"? The few that I have handled, the only
difference was the color!

In the 40's, there was a lot of natural rubber in use. I am not certain that these were made of a form of natural rubber or not but if so they will have hardened with age. Like many of us.

I always thought of the recoil pad as more of a "recoil enhancer".
My jungle carbine gets a #4 butt put on if I intend to shoot it much with full power ammo.
