Is there an easy way to get the mainspring on a 336 in the second notch of the upper tang? I have a hard time just getting it into the first notch. thanks for any help or advice.

Look for a link for tuning Marlin lever actions. I may have found it in this forum.

I use a brass 1/4" nut driver that has a hollow stem for longer bolts. Makes it super easy to install the hammer spring. With the stock off put the nut driver over the hammer strut numb where it pokes through the angled retainer and push down until the retainer lines up and slides into place. Couple times when the brass nut driver was hiding I used a 1/4" deep well type socket on a screwdriver handle type extension and it worked fine also.
