Hi Kevin,

A mold without any lettering would have the same cost for the core die, as one with the redneck lettering. They have to machine a new core, so I can't get out of that cost. I could do that as a seperate round of molds, but I would have to hit a minimum # of molds to make it worthwhile. I'm thinking 100 minimum would be about 22 bucks a mold, 200 takes it down to ~15.

Hahahaha - like cats to a laser pointer! We just can't resist. Really the molds are such a good deal on price alone, throw in good size and cool design and it becomes a foregone conclusion. You really are an enabler of casting frenzy.

I'll be wanting some but let me look over the finances. I just bought some other stuff and have to balance my hobby needs against the rest of the budget concerned with silly stuff like living indoors with electricity and all that. Dear wife puts a lot of store in some of that stuff.

Hi Guys, I'm working on the details for this one, taking me a bit of time, but the list is coming along quickly. Turn-around wont be nearly as long as the previous GB. I'll post some graphics within the next week, just need a few hours of uninterrupted time on the computer.... But casting and ingot making have been taking my attention lately :)

And it's KILLING me. the cure that leads to your survival is soooo easy. Just buy a couple of the Redneck Gold ingot molds. At the expected price they are a good amount less than the RCBS and not much more than the Lee. As a conversation piece or unique item they have added value.

I'm feeling sort of warm and fuzzy toward them right now. I just made 170 lbs. of ingots in the Cast Boolit molds. :-) I have enough molds with just those but will probably buy a couple of the Redneck Gold version just because the logo will make me smile.

No sure she believed me as she walked away shaking her head.:bigsmyl2:

Price will be about that, depending on how many you order.

Letters are PB for Lead, WW for wheel weights, LN for Lino and OT for other. I cant easily modify the letters, there is a cost for reworking the die.

Hi Springfield,

I've been working through a few details on the molds and I now have everything figured out. I'm becoming a Vendor Sponsor and am going to start selling them outright. The advantage for folks is they wont have to put their money in and wait months for the molds, I have decided to front all the costs for this next die change and I've already placed the order with the caster. He has already casted a second order of the Cast Boolits logo and is finishing up the die change for this new mold, I expect to have them both in hand within a month.

I'll be putting together my VS sales area in the next few days so everybody knows pricing. It's not going to be much different then what the first run went for, I'm not doing this to get rich... :D :guntootsmiley:

I like creating for you guys, and I think I can do it better if its not a slow and cumbersome process like some of the GB's can currently run. I'd like to start keeping consistant stock on the molds, and then start taking ideas from you-all for new molds that I can create and offer.

Way off topic to the thread, but imagine custom brass ladle's that will handle pours in these big molds. Making proper tooling gets me excited...

Do ya have a reasonable time that these will be done & available?

I have been sitting on about 6-700 pounds of stuff to put into ingots.

I can always just do what I have with the ingot molds I have. Just would like at least some sort of a date for purchase /delivery...

Seems kind of fair to ask. IMO, anyway.

The die maker has the mold finished and has cast all the parts. He told me this morning that he will get them to his shipping company this week. So my estimate is 3-4 weeks ill have molds in hand and start shipping to everyone. It doesnt take me long to box up and give to my postman.

Id suggest you wait just a bit longer and you will have molds in hand.

Sorry for not giving more frequent updates, was hoping id stay ahead of the curve with everybody out shooting during the summer.

Lakehouse, are you going ahead on being a vendor here? Will you be getting in more of the CB logo version? Do you think there will be other versions (plain w/o any markings, for instance)? Did you finalize the unit price?

Sorry to pepper you with all the questions, but it'd help me make some decisions.

Hi Kevin,

Yes on the VS. However I'm not setting up the account name until I get product in and can take the pics, list it, and be able to sell to everyone, immediately. I dont want to take orders and then have people wait for parts to come to me.

Yes I am getting more of the CB logo in, at same time the RG is coming, which should be no more than 3 weeks to my door. (molds are being boxed and shipped and should make it onto a ship this week)

Yes, I will definitely be doing other logo's and designs. I can actually change pretty-much anything on the mold as we work through the process.

Let me get the store setup, once the molds are in hand, and we can decide if blank molds is right for you. or, IM me and I can start estimating for you?

Hey Guys,

Want to give you an update. The Product Manager (Andy) for the company making the die-castings fell out of contact with me on August 10th. It was VERY unusual because for the past year he has been fantastic at keeping me updated on their progress. I have been calling and texting and emailing like crazy cause I've invested a huge chunk of cash in this upcoming order. To say I was stressed was an under-statement...

Today, Andy's boss reached out to me to tell me that Andy is in the hospital in and out of consciousness. I dont know what happened yet, but She was very apologetic for leaving me hanging for 2 weeks and has promised to get the order on a plane to me in the next few days.

So:
1) please say a prayer for Andy, although you dont know him, he has been busting his but for us all, he made the first set of molds and these next ones (Redkneck Gold) will be just as nice.
2) know that within the next 1-2 weeks I will get my VS page populated, get all of you invoiced and start getting these ingot molds into your hands in time for fall.
3) I've started a new job and in the next month or so, I'll be moving but this WON'T affect this ordering. The new home will have a ton more space for me to start taking on more of these types of projects.

Side-note... I've got WAY north of 4K lbs of lead right now, and the new company is moving me and my lead.... That makes me smile at night, its the simple things in life. :)

I'm just wondering what is going on. On August 11 the molds were on a US dock but were turned back due to a paperwork problem. Then on August 27 you got an email from UPS International that an air shipment was inbound. Then on August 29 the shipper lady tells you that she will get the molds on a plane in the next couple of days. Since then we have had no word. They should have been here by now if they had been placed on a slow boat from China. What gives?

what gives is called murphy's law, he has not charged anybody yet and he has a full time job, this is just a side gig to help cast boolit members so constant updates may not happen, have patience grasshopper ;-)

Yeah, there have been some delays but im confident that im not being scammed. Ive been in daily contact with the manager and the shipment left hong kong last Saturday. While im not pleased with all the mistakes made, these molds will arrive soon.

To make things more difficult..... im in the middle of packing up the house and moving next week, so the molds will come to me here, or they will be freight forwarded.

Lets see where we are at next week, i think (hope) very close to distribution.

redhawkFaith my friends, and im not the holy-roller type but faith in humanity.

Common sense in me says there is no way the company would complete the first shipment then show me pics of the finished dies for the new molds, and not come through.

If i had to guess, its the Trump sanctions that have just locked up the import docks and the Chinese government have tried to slow the trade machine down from their side.

These molds ARE in route. [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

Hi Guys,

One of you prompted me today, to give an update.

I got feedback last night from the manager of the dept. They had shipped the molds to me 6+ weeks ago, the boxes had made it to customs (not sure if at the host country or US) and was put on hold (seized)... Apparently they destroyed a portion of the order and then shipped the rest back to the die-caster. He is extremely sorry for all the difficulty this has caused and is having the entire order re-made and will be shipping it out to me again (3rd time) within a week. It's a series of unfortunate events, BUT I'm confident they they will arrive within a month at my doorstep.

Keep your fingers crossed and your wallets ready, these will ship in time to give as Christmas presents... :)

Thanks,

LH

Did you get a tracking number for the last shipment? You would have been able to see the progress with it, right to the point the alleged partial destruction happened...

Sounds like they screwed up, never filed your order, and now are giving you a ******** story to hide the fact. Customs "partially" destroying a confiscated lot? What; they got tired of breaking them so just said "to hell with it, send the rest back, that's enough of a lesson!" I ordered a single computer case from China, a sub $50 purchase and i could see were the package was at all times with the tracking number.

Three good news is that if they are still talking chances are they'll eventually ship. I would make sure I get a tracking number and I would look for another mold caster.

10-31-2019, 03:09 PM
Someone in the good old USA must be able to make them....I'm surprised you had to go to China in the first place. Knowing that they are from China...I'm canceling my order.

As I recall he looked at many places in the US but no one was willing to do a small order. Too bad, because the second order was so much larger. The first batch of Chinese ones were excellent, and I am still hoping to get some more.

Lakehouse2012
11-01-2019, 12:42 PM
Springfield is correct, i had multiple US casters quote me for making the tooling and casting the parts. From the cheapest manufacturer each ingot mold would have been $65 + shipping . Far more than most anyone would have paid for any of them.

I sourced to this company based on cost, much like "many" people shop at walmart.....

If purchasing an ingot mold from china is an issue for you, and usage of the phone or computer you are using to type your message on this forum is not? Those devices were also made elsewhere..... just suggesting that we keep perspective here.

Hey guys, I think we need to take it easy on Lakehouse. It's not like he got into this just so he could through his money away. Have any of you already paid for your ingot molds? I think most of you have had something like this happen to you in the past, even from USA manufacturers. If you have not it will in the future. We all must learn from these kinds of situations and not blame the wrong person. So, I think we need to support Lakehouse instead of tell him what he should have done. If these Redneck Gold molds are like his Cast Boolits molds they will be well worth the wait.

would not be surprised that things are a little screwed up by the trade dispute between US and China, if the company does other business for "regular" customers we may be a victim of being a "special case" where the shipping and workflow is different than normal.

Not even terribly surprised that a manager would say went out yesterday and someone further down the chain would say going out today. Who runs to tell the manager you had to postpone the shipment until tomorrow that you told him was going out today?

I have no idea about the current status of tariffs but it isn't hard to imagine a shipment running afoul of those changes either by not having the right paperwork, having unexpected taxes or duties not paid, or having the content incorrectly identified for the purpose of duties. I can also see how if a shipment got out of the normal container to truck/rail delivery pipeline the pallet could more easily sustain cargo damage.

Some being "destroyed" and the rest sent back doesn't really say if that was accidental or intentional. Having worked with people with English as second language I have heard them sometimes use a "correct" word but in a less appropriate or accurate way. In some ways the better their English skills the more likely it is that the word will "fit" but be a somewhat misleading choice. We might say "some were badly damaged and the rest sent back". Or just "they were sent back but some were badly damaged" Damaged beyond use and destroyed have the same technical meaning but native speakers would use them differently.

As for them being from China I would remind folks that trading with other parts of the world has been going on since biblical times. Starts with trading for natural resources not locally available, progresses into goods made from those resources, and eventually arrives at durable goods made more cheaply or of higher quality. The Vikings had Turkish jewelry, the Roman empire fed itself with wheat from Egypt, Colonies sent lumber and fish to Europe. Europe sent cloth and metal ware to the world. Great Britain lead the way with the industrialization of those industries there. Eventually the US supplied the majority of the worlds autos, often with machine tools made in Germany. It wasn't that Kodak didn't make camera's it was that Ziess made better ones.

We import more from China than they do from us but we also export more to other countries than we import from them. China is the most efficient source for some goods. But we buy a lot of electronics from Korea and how many scopes come from Japan? We buy oil from Mexico but sell them back more in refined fuel and lubricants. So yes if we wanted to pay wages to support an American standard of living we could be working on computers or phone all made in the US. Instead we buy from the source that is the most efficient use of our money.

I like the molds already purchased. If there was a US manufacturer that could have provided them at even a competitive price I would have been surprised if Lakehouse had not used them. But I'm buying zero at $65 while at what the last ones cost I bought six. And when these come in if available I will buy at least one or probably two more.

You "were" updating the list as folks wanted the molds.

I would think that THESE FOLKS in that list would be the ones first in line & not the ones who go thru your New VS forum.

Particularly since these folks, including me, were supportive of this venture, even before your VS was worked out.

Would'nt you think that would be the Right thing to do????

Yes JBinMN,

I fully intend to go through that list and inform each person. Please understand that this is not a livelyhood, I have a full-time job, family, etc. I know that you have seen me do the very best I can over the last several years. It takes time to write each person a PM (you can see that list doesnt contain emails) and give them an invoice that they never agreed to, because I wasn't able to price anything until now.

So far this week, I've inventoried 100's of molds within 24 hours, put the VS page and pricing together in the second 24 hours, and now I'm spending 30 minutes writing posts to defend my overloaded position. I will be sending you a PM tonight, with invoice information.
