I was lookin through JES sight and saw among calibers listed was 35 russian.
Has anyone had experience with this conversion, what guns it for...
Wandering if it's a cz 527 thing, years ago I bought a unbarreled action for 6.5grendel build but never used it. Lately been thinkin about 35 cal build.

I believe the 35 Russian would be a in metric 9x54R Russian. This caliber is very popular in Russia. for Big game which is a Nagant Rifle rebarreled. . also similar with the same action as 9.3x53R Finland.

I do believe you are mistaken, but can't fault you for why.

The 9x54R Russian as used in the Medved {"Bear"} semiauto rifle was IIRC actually a 9.3 caliber. It's similar but not identical to the 9.3x53R Finn IIRC. Check it out.

35 russian, isn't that the 7.62x39 necked up to 35 cal. I remember reading a post about it a year or so ago. Try doing a search.

How about gunsmiths(rifle) that specialize in Wildcats. Probably doesnt exist. Since most only focus on one or two Wildcats.

Wiki had this to say about it.

"It is based on the Russian 7.62×39 mm round, but with the neck expanded to fit a 9 mm (.357 caliber) bullet. Initial design of the cartridge began in the 1940s by a team of a supposed 27 unknown members. Final design was completed by N. Zabelin, L. Dvoryaninova and Y. Frolov of the TsNIITochMash in the 1980s. The intent was to create a subsonic cartridge for suppressed firearms for special forces units that had more power, range and penetration than pistol cartridges usually used in such weapons. The 9mm bullet is approximately 16 g (250 gr), double that of the normal 123 gr 7.62×39 mm round, and has only subsonic muzzle velocity. This reduced velocity does not produce a sonic boom, but does limit the muzzle energy and effective range of a weapon when compared to high velocity rounds normally used in (non-suppressed) rifles. The round has an effective lethal range of 400 to 530 meters and a maximum penetration of up to 10 mm of steel."

It would be fun right between the .357 Max and the .35 Remington. A great little round for a mini bolt action IMO.

Geez you guys. The 35 Russian is the 7.62X54R necked up to .35 cal. It is equal to the 358 Winchester in most categories

Wikipedia is not always right. When JES refers to a 35 Russian he is talking about the 7.62X54R bored out to 35 Caliber. I Know because I have one.

In that case it would be fun right between the .358 Win and the .35 Whelen.[emoji16]

I've seen(googled) where people have chambered AR's in 35 gremlin, ARK, etc. Couple years ago I saw a gunsmith that was doing 527 conversions for one of these 35 Wildcats, but I can no longer locate the website, he was based in Indiana, Ohio or one of the states with those deer hunting laws, wich limit what centerfire cartridges can be used.

Silvercreek I took my 7.62X54 die set to a machine shop and had them open the die up to accept the dummy cartridge i made up by necking up 7.62X54 brass to .358 then neck expanding with a NOE .358X.362 expanding button and seating a .360 boolit and crimping just enough to take the flair out with a Lee FCD. All with a Lee 358 Winchester die set. I haven't found a die set for this caliber so far.

Make a Chamber cast and send it to Dave Davidson and CH4D - but check his website first to make sure he's not already making them.

CH4D doesn't list it on there website and also says that out of stock and special order are app. 1 year wait. Machine shop charged $100 to do my dies which is about what CH4D charges for a die set. But I am shooting mine now.

I had read somewhere that JES didn't like to do surplus mil barrels because of the sometimes questionable materials leaving a less than desirable result.
Calling them would verify either way.

Which rifle did you have rebored and what barrel length?
