I have been looking for a kit to build (like i need another gun). I know all about Traditions , Cabelas, Track of the Wolf , Possibles Shop and Dixie gun Works. I have also found Sitting Fox Custom Muzzleloaders, and Buffalo Arms.

I like the ones at Sitting Fox. Does anyone know of anywhere else that offers a kit????????????????????

Thanks Guy's

If you're looking for a nice authentic flintlock kit, I would suggest Jim Chambers. http://www.flintlocks.com/index.htm They offer some excelent custom kits, not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Jim Chambers' line is very, very good. As pointed out, not cheap, but worth the money, IMO and IME.

Man they all look good. These will help. I have built 2 CVA/Traditions and would like to get a little better quality rifle. As I said these all look good. Now I have to decide which one.

was an original about .45 cal. caplock. Wish I still had it.
My dad told me that when his family moved west from Missouri they left the Kentucky rifle leaning against the fireplace as it wasn"t worth anything. Think along the lines of "The Grapes of Wrath".
Lately, since I got the 1853 Enfield repop, I have been wanting a nice flinter. I followed the links here and wow, those are all nice.
I think I am hooked good. It seems that a very nice rifle can be had for seven to nine hundred FRNs. Even the six hundred dollar ones from Cabelas are respectable.

You can get a Traditions for around $300 and they are not terrible. I have a couple. I am just wanting one with nicer wood and hardware. The cheaper ones don't shoot to bad either but maybe more is better.

I would pay a bit more and get a quality kit with a swamped barrel profile. Most of the vendors you mentioned has them. Even if you get a "plain jane" barn rifle, get a good lock (especially in flint) and a good barrel. They will feel much better ballanced.

Swamped barrels are a very good bonus as they balance best for shooting, good locks are an absolute must in a flintlock as is a good trigger system. The ignition system gives you shootability. Before you start on a more advanced kit, understand that you may have to do some drilling and tapping, and some minor dovetailing. They require more time and patience than a Lyman kit. Also the final fitting is a little more advanced. They are great for beginners, but do offer challenges. I was paid to assemble one for an individual as he admitted he lacked the exerience to do one and get his money's worth. Not to spread gloom and doom, nor do I want any business as I am now happy just doing my own work for myself. Building traditional ML's, especially the longrifles, is a great hobby and I hope you enjoy it.

Try calling/visiting this fellow, he's not to far, and last time I was there he had 50 or so built up "in the white", bare kits, and finished rifles..

Track of the Wolf has some quality kits and you can pick your poisin as far as complexity.
Been meaning to make a trip to Tip Cutis' place, just need some more scratch. I'm scared to go down there with out cash, might end up needing a bailout for my credit card debt. It has been real bad just hitting his shed at Friendship the last couple times. Of course it does give my buddies something to bet on whether I come out emptyhanded or not.
