Looking for a top mounting reciever sight for my Remington 700 458 Win mag.

Could also use a front sight for it. I have the ramp, but the dovetail mount sight blade is broken. Fiber optic would be nice, but not necessary.

I'm hoping to find one of the ones that mount on the rear scope mounting holes. I'm not really wanting to take any wood out of the stock and risk weakening it.

Good morning
I think you are looking for what is called the "Guide Sight".

The Williams Guide sight is close to being junk. I have 3 of them and I do not recommend them.

Skinner may make something that mounts on top. You won't weaken the stock but I understand your concern. You might find one of the Redfield scope mounts with the folding peep if you search a bit.

There are some meant to go on the rail of flat top ARs a weaver base and one of these could be used also.

I was looking at the Weaver one, but didnt see any in stock anywhere. I hadn't considered one that mounts on a scope rail and will look into that some more.

Skinner has one in the works but does not currently produce one.

I have a New in the box Lyman, Model 57WJS fits Rem 700, Win 70, Savage 110. BUT it mounts to the side of the receiver. So if the holes are not there, they will have to be added. Bought it but never got around to using it. I have used the Skinners, mostly on lever actions and they work fine. Best setup is for a fixed distance and bullet weight since elevation was doable but wind-age was kentucky.

FYI, If using a rear sight meant for a flat top AR, a corresponding front sight would have to be very high, probably 0.5" or 0.75" tall,
and would be pretty cumbersome and likely to snag brush etc.

One of the several versions of weaver/picatinny rail mount rear peep sight from NECG would be much better and much lower.

Look at N106 ("old" model, peep adj range above rail is .160" to .360") and N106G ("new" model, peep adj range above rail is .155" to .245").

I was looking at this exact one. I've been in contact with the fellow at Skinner and he is hoping to have a sight out for the 700 here very soon, so I may hold out with the factory sights for a bit longer.
