Finally got around to smelting down my summer's accumulation of range and construction scrap over the weekend. Had 125 # (+/-) of washed range scrap raked out of the face of pistol berm and 52# of old lead chimney/vent flashing provided by a buddy who's also a roofer. The batch of range scrap yielded 82# of fairly soft alloy (8 - 9 Brinnel) and the flashing 46# of pure lead...or so close that my hardness tester can't measure the difference.

The Lyman #2 (commercial alloy, not a home-brew mix) that got on hand runs 14 Bhn. Anyone got an idea what I proportions of WW or Lino I'd need to add to bring the range scrap up to around that same hardness?

Try 50-50, Range-Lino. If now too soft, add Lino. If now too hard, add WW. Wait a week before testing. ... felix
