Hi guys
I found this on another site, but it looked like lots of good info and a fairly in depth test.

I have only found one lube that shows a noticeable difference in lubricity. White Lightning Chain Lube. And it's not on the list. sigh

So many good ones out there. Synthetic motor oil is high on my list.

Froglube is coconut oil.

Motor oil is a great lube. Not so good as a rust inhibitor as that's not what it's formulated to do.

Froglube is coconut oil.

Coconut oil? Anything else, or just coconut oil?
His test showed it to be a top contender.

I cook with coconut oil. Froglube is not coconut oil.

What is everyone's concern with lubrication? Is that more of a semi-auto rifle thing? I've used Hoppe's, motor oil, and now Corrosion X on semi-auto handguns with no worries. Am I missing something?

Usually I use atf or I will use diesel or any thin oil if it's what I got

Maybe it has coconut oil in it, but it's not all coconut oil. I've never used Frog lube, but what I've seen from the guys who use it, it is a liquid oil. Coconut oil is a solid at room temperature.

Here ya go.

I assume that is a mass spectrometer
It don't lie
Frog lube gums up, but it do prevent rust
Hornady dry lubes are fantastic but toxic
I will just stick with
Ballistol and if I need grease, Superlube
There are more of these threads than lubes, potions, and lotions
And that is saying something

I did my own testing years ago with a piece flat steel that I ground and polished smooth. I tapped off sections and tried different lubes, I placed the steel out side during high humidity, under wet conditions. At the time I tried everything that I had avalibale to me, which was ATF, 10w30, Rem oil, and WD40, and a few others that I don't recall. But during that 7 day test wd40 was the least rusty, the rest failed to stop rust at all. Everybody should do there own testing to see what works for them, but I can tell you I've found out the hard way that wd40 is not good long term protection, but for short term protection, wd40 is hard to beat. It sucks as lubricant, and it will gum up the inside of a gun like nobody's business!

The end result is :
...
Hornady One Shot
...

Please note that the Hornady product that did well was NOT plain old "One Shot".
Hornady, according to their website, has a family of products it calls "one shot" and
the product that was actually tested was
"Hornady ONE SHOTŪ HD-EXTREME Dry Lubricant" which is DIFFERENT that their regular cleaner/lubricant.

I’ve been using synthetic 2 stroke oil for years.

The test was interesting. I have always just used whatever spray lube that was used on the job. Just saying....... If or when I end up buying some I will look hard at Ballistol. If you choose an electrical grade lube most have some moisture displacing qualities. This helps if you hunt or shoot in the rain.

Good old CLP for semi-autos and Lucas red and tacky for bolt guns.

I’ve used CLP on weapons in environments and conditions worse than 90% of people’s guns will ever see. The stuff just works.

For very long term storage in any environment I use cosmoline. For just putting in the gun safe, CLP will do the trick just fine. Take a little bottle with you when you go out hunting or camping. Easier yet is to have a saturated rag in a ziplock bag.
