Going to be loading .44-40 for my Winchester '66 repro. I've been told cartridge overall length (COL) is critical in the '66 and Henry repros for proper functioning and chambering, but my #12 Speer manual doesn't list the .44-40 for reference. Anybody have a loadbook or manual that shows the original COL or have a few factory loadings on hand they could mic out for a reading? Thanks in advance...

My Lyman cast bullet manual ( 4th edition) shows 1.592 OAL for the 44-40 in the cartridge drawing. O would load 1 or 2 dummies first and check for feed and function before doing a bunch

One plus to the hennery style magazine is when you load unload the follower is in the turned end so to long or short rounds slide right out. Makes it easier than fishing them out or disassembling the rifle to get them out

Thanks for the info! Yes, I could see getting cartridges OUT of a Winchester magazine could be a real effort in futility!
