I've got a Rossi 92 in .357 mag being shipped to my local FFL soon, and I've been trying to figure out what people are using for bullet diameter with theirs. In my Smith revolvers I've been sizing them to .358". Searching here didn't bring up much.

I have another Rossi 92 in .44 mag, and that one I have to size .434". However, that doesn't necessarily mean that Rossi made their .357 barrels oversize too.

Anyhow, those of you with .357 Rossi 92s, what are you sizing your bullets to?

When the new 92 comes in, I plan on slugging the bore, but I just thought I'd ask what everyone else is sizing to.

Thanks,
Mike

.358 works fine for me. Lee 358-158-RF, in 357 Magnum cases, HP-38 Powder.

Where did you find a '92 in .357 ? I've been looking high and low for one. Sorry, I have no input for your original question.

A friend found one at a gun shop in Texas. I hadn't realized Rossi wasn't selling new ones anymore. Sounds like the Rossi 92 scene will be drying up quickly.

Both my Rossi 92's have .356 grooves but I size all my 38 and 357's to .358 as I have a couple .38 handguns and also a .357 handgun. The most accurate bullet I've found for the Rossi's is the Lee 125 RF.

I have an older one (30yrs) that is fine at .3565, had it worked over by one of the Best Cowboy Gunsmiths around. At the time anyway, None left in SoCal. Same Man reworked everyone of my Lever Guns.
Everyone has had thousands of rounds through it. Except maybe the 3 .45-70's. Hundreds in those. Haven't bought a Lever Gun in 20yrs.

WALKER '47 Gun Shop is gone and old Big Foot Bob has passed on.

Won't buy another unless a jap/Winchester 1895-Carbine drops in my lap.
Or an old MARLIN 1894CB 24inch bbl.

Sizing to .358" will work just fine in most all .357 Magnum/.38 Special carbines and rifles. The SAAMI Spec. for .357 Magnum/.38 Special bores in rifles and pistols is .357", which is why .358" diameter bullets work so well in them.

For the .44 Magnum handguns, the SAAMI Spec. is .429" bore, but for the rifles it's .431" bore. People keep referring to .44 Magnum rifles bored to .431" as being "oversized", but they're just really bored to SAAMI Specs. I won't argue the pros and conds of the .431" specification, but it is what it is.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Fred--I'd seen that about the SAAMI specs being different between rifle/handgun. Mine actually slugs .433" which was why I called it oversize. No big deal though once I figured out the size it wanted to shoot well.

Thanks everyone--sounds like .358" will most likely work just fine in this new 92.

mine likes the 358429 in .38 cases with 6gr. unique. some times 10 gr. 2400 that is a deer or pig load. I size to .358. 38 cases feed better then .357.

I have a group buy clone of 358429 from the days when we were doing the Lee group buys, and definitely plan on trying some loads with it.

Great business model. Have a product that is in popular demand, then don't make it. Seems only Kel-Tec rivals them in that respect.

Still making them, but few and far between.... for the OP, I use .358 in mine and so far 4 different weights work well
