I picked up a CVA hunter in 44 mag , I had heard that some were having a hard time getting them to shoot with cast . Mine likes cast just fine . I chose the CVA for its faster twist rate as I wanted to shoot the same lee 430-310 rf I use in my 444 marlin . I Went out and did some load testing .

DISCLAIMER: the following is safe in my gun but not necessarily safe in anything else

My loads are the lee 310 cast of WCWW , test out to 22bhn with a lee hardness tester
Gas checked and sized to .4315 .
Loaded in federal cases with a CCI mag primer
The powder was H110
The boolits are crimped in the lower crimp groove with a lee factory crimp die
19.5 gr was the load it really likes it put 4 into a 1/2 inch center to center group with a flyer taking the group to about 1.25 center to center This was at about 50 yards
The velocities were
1504 FPS
1528 FPS
1513 FPS
1521 FPS
1526 FPS

The velocities are consistent so I am hoping the flyer was my fault , I will have to load up some more of these and try the again at 100 yards this time .

That sounds about right for the lee.. how was the recoil on the CVA? It’s a pretty light gun isn’t it?

Recoil wasn’t to bad ,the CVA has a fairly thick barrel so probably not as light as one would expect
