After completing the Kieth #5 blackhawk, I found a crusty Super Blackhawk for a good price and i wanted to practice some more. I shot it a few times and determined that i do not like the grip frame. That thing hurt everytime I pulled the trigger. I thought I would give the Kieth #5 treatment to this one also. Since its a 44 mag, I decided to use a steel 1860 trigger guard. This is where i am now after a few mistakes building the backstraps.

I like your grip, BigAlofPa! Might you share the brand/model? My grip which came on revolver causes knuckle-pain ;) after not too many shots.
Thanks!
geo

Follow-up edit: [with much thanks to OP, I now have a set of these grips coming! Really appreciated! geo]

I did the same thing for my 357 too. It was a knuckle buster. 239151

Yep, the strut is upside down for these mock up pics. I guess I got in hurry to take pics and didn't catch it.

Your work looks great. I've never liked the SBH grip either. The regular Blackhawk grip is my favorite. I always preferred the Pachmayr over the Hogue grip because to my eye it looks better. I had Sack Petersen make a pair of wider than standard elk grips for my previous .41 BH and they control recoil well and look great doing it.

That looks great. And you are right factory grips just hurt put a set of houge' s on mine and now its a pleasure to shoot although it lost the cowboy look.

Did not realize that i never updated this thread.

I did reblue the pistol. A few hours of sanding removed all the rust and pitting. A friend gave me a piece of Marble wood for the grips. Changing the grip over was a real game changer for this pistol. It no longer beats you to death with warm loads. Its a pleasure to shoot now.
