Been casting around for a replacement bbl and saw an ancient post that Aspangler had some.

Then I find he has gone to the big rifle range in the sky.

The only one I have found is very good and very expensive from Lothar. As my M96 is an 1898 Mauser Werke made one that was a Danish resistance sniper, I suppose it's worth it, but I keep hoping to find a takeoff with a code 1 bore !

Suggestions welcome.

Sarco used to carry them, I haven't been on their site in some time though. I bought a new one off them several years ago, absolutely pristine inside and out. james

i never saw swede barrels at sarco, but samco used to sell them. samco is also out of business.

Walther will cut you one to the proper contour.

If it were that significant of a rifle I would pay the extra $ to have a Walther barrel made and fitted.

And I want to apologize, the barrel that I bought DID come from Samco, not Sarco. Old age is not kind to the mind. Sorry, james

Springfield Sporters would be worth a try if they still exist.

I put one on a 98 recently, bought a Shilen 6.5x55pre-fit, with the short chamber, rented a reamer and about 5 turns had the chamber with .001 headspace. Nothing to it really. Brownells has them prefit, short chambered but they are a 1-9 or 1-10 twist. Any Shilen barrel broker can get you one, go to Savage shooters.com, and you will see a list of vendors there that can get you any caliber barrel you like. The shilen ultra match stainless , 1-8 twist, with magnum sporter countor was $330 shipped I believe. I shot and cleaned it every shot for 15 shots breaking it in, and then shot a 5 shot group that went into .408 of an inch with my hunting load. About twice the price of a good quality mil surp barrel, but you will get top notch accuracy!! Krieger also makes these, that are the CBI , button rifled and I have two benchrest rifles built with them, they are tack drivers.

Springfield sporters was closed due to the owners being in bad health. Last I heard he may or may not sell off his remaing stock and head for florida. Can you imagine all that and trucking all that to someplace like gun parts?. Frank
