Does an 8 star crimp offer any advantages over a 6 star crimp?

If you're reloading, it has to do with the folds already on the hull.
Some empties have a 6 point fold/crimp, some are 8.
If you use the wrong one, sometimes the crimp doesn't 'do' right.
On new shells, I can't imagine that it would matter.

It used to be a paper shell x plastic shell thing... I don’t think there is any advantage in plastic.

It seems to me that 8 point is usually on target type loads and 6 point is used on field loads. Just what I have noticed.

An 8 point crimp uses just a tiny fraction more of the hull than a 6 point. That is the only difference.
