I inherited a custom built .40/65 from my Uncle and I am not Shure how to arrive at a value on it in case I sell it. I realize this is hard to do, but like my gunsmith said " I would not tell you what it is worth if I intended to buy it. " It is deadly accurate, has very nice wood and was built by a top quality local B.P. gunsmith for competition. I believe it was a .43 Spanish rolling block action and has a 32" Green Mountain heavy barrel. It has a Lee Shaver Mid Range Vernier rear sight and a Lee Shaver bubble level sight on front. Any suggestions ?

I recently purchased a roller in 45-70 at a local show. 32" octagon badger barrel. very good walnut on it tuned trigger ( about 2 1/2 Lbs with short release) MVA wind gage front and MVA long range soule on the rear with a Hadley eyecup. Also had a limb saver recoil pad on it. Very nice blue job. It is in great condition. I gave $1000.00 for it with one insert for the front sight. This was at the SCC show last spring.

I see Rolling Block customs run the gamut in how well they're done, and what the prices are. So without pictures, it's impossible to say it's value. If it's well done, which to me means the receiver is nicely case colored, and barrel rust blued. Plus the stocks are nice sporting style, with the big military tangs reduced to Sporting Rifle shape; then it's a high dollar custom.
But if it's an original unrestored receiver, or the receiver is blued, or stocks aren't high grade, then it's tough to say it's the same. It may shoot equally well, but the investment in time and money wasn't done, so the values will be opposite ends of the spectrum.
I build a few Rolling Blocks for my own use, and not to sell. But I always want to do them as close to what they would look like if Remington did them back in the 1800's. For myself, I'd only want one done the wrong way if it was cheap, and I could use the savings to go towards making it right.
These are my last two builds:

These both ran right around $1,000 each for me to build. Both are .40 calibers; .40-50SS and .40-65. 34" and 32" barrels.

Beautiful guns !

Thanks. The straight grip is a real Sporting Rifle action, while the pistol grip started life as a military action. I narrowed and thinned the top tang, plus adapted it to pistol grip lower tang. Then reshaped the hammer and breech block spurs to sporting style to make them smaller.
There's a lot of work needed to make a military look like a Sporting version.
