The hammer on my 9mm Star Super B is following the slide after chambering a new round. This malfunction is caused by ??????.

Hammer follow down is a good indication that someone has done a trigger job and left the sear angles negative or someone has tried to lighten the trigger weight by lightening the sear spring.

Make sure, when pulling the trigger, the hammer goes back slightly before snapping forward when the sear breaks.

Look for signs the sear spring has been lightened, such as, shiny spots where material has been removed.

Replace or refit parts as necessary.

There should be a small bar on the frame that disconnectes the trigger as the slide moves back then forward . This is supposed to keep the trigger from falling with the slide. You can check the gun parts page for a drawing.

sounds like a worn sear surface that is failing to engage and hold the hammer in cocked position. not uncommon in spanish made semi-autos of questionable metallurgy and heat treatment,
