357 Mag Ruger Redhawk ?

OK I have enough 357 mag pistols LOL

But I found out a member of one of the Gun Clubs I belong to , is selling a pair of gently used Ruger 357 pistols
He has both the Old style 6 shot , 5 1/2" and a 7 1/2" Ruger Redhawlks , selling them as a pair ... Wish the 7 1/2" was set up with a factory scope mount set up ( not sure if they offered it )
But , I can live without it

Not sure how many people he has talked to , but he knew I was interested from a talk we had a few years back
So he invited me over to his place Saturday to "Talk"

No clue on his price
But I figured I would ask a few questions here before I go

Anyone have either of them ?
How do they shoot ?
I know they will weigh a lot more that my Dan Wesson 357 mags that I normally shoot
But do they weigh to much to carry hunting ?

I figured finding either one that I could afford was a long shot , finding both ....:holysheep

LOL I have the 41 Mag , 44 Mag , 45 Colt and 480 Ruger .... so this will make the set complete
I even have a 6" 10 MM that was rebuilt from a 41 mag by another club member .... a number of my friends keep trying to talk me into selling it

If he offers the pair at a fair price and you say they are worth owning
I will just have to work up a deer hunting load , as I have killed deer with all of the others

I have two of the eight shot versions with the short barrels. If you look on gun broker, you will see the .357 mags, like those two, are holding strong price-wise. I really like the Redhawks. I would feel fortunate to get those two.

one can not have to many 357mags, the universe just does not work that way.

I own one of the older 357 Redhawks,,, and wouldn't trade it for any other 357 to use. Buy both if they are reasonable in price. Resale is always an option.
The strongest factory production offered 357, ever.
Weight is on par with any Redhawk. To me, not much difference for a hunting rig. Mine is a 5-1/2" version. One big thing is the comfort when shooting,, no matter the load.

I just received a pair of molds for 357. The bullet design is the "Martin-Bradshaw" and is a heavy bullet, built with the 357 Max in mind. I was wondering last night how it will do in the Redhawk. It's a 195 grn SWC GC design. Gonna be playing with it this summer.

But if you want a SWEET 357 for hunting,, get them!!!!!!!

I don’t think Ruger made the redhawks in 480 Ruger.

I have a compete set of 7-1/2” Redhawk hunters in 357, 41, 44, 45. The 357 by far is the heaviest due to the smaller diameter holes. However, with a scope added, there is negligible recoil. I’d pick them both up and the 7-1/2” may have the Ruger ring cutouts.

As far as accuracy, my redhawk has superb accuracy especially when leaning hard on it with a 180-200gr WFNGC with 296.

Too heavy to hunt with? that’s subjective. I’d carry mine if that’s what I wanted but with a chest rig to carry it. It won’t be a hip carry piece.

I wish they made a Redhawk in 480 ruger. Actually I wish they made the Super Redhawk in blued steel without the butt ugly frame extension in 480 ruger. Nothing wrong with the redhawk in 357 magnum, but it seems like a lot of extra weight for nothing. I would imagine recoil would be next to nothing, but I always thought the GP100 was pretty light on recoil too.

Well, the added steel allows one to push the envelope a bit. I'd like to get one and ream the cylinders for the 360 DW, but just haven't gotten around to that yet.

Just watch Gun Broker if you want those two and you will be rewarded.
My 8 shot .357s are heavy, no surprise. The 2.75" barrel is fine by me, but probably too short for most.

That's not a Typo?! No, nobody is going to take him up on that. You couldn't hardly justify $1500 for the pair unless you throw in a bunch of extra goodies.

You can buy a brand new 8-shot 357 magnum redhawk in your choice of 2.75", 4.2", or 5.5" barrels.

You did the right thing to walk away. They are not worth what he is asking. Give yourself time something will come up for the price you looking to pay.

As for scope mounting... Mister Wegiland makes a fine NO DRILL mount for RedHawks. I have a MatchDot on 44 RedHawk that's pretty fun to shoot.
