Bought a used 30-30 reamer off the forum here a few years ago and recently picked up a $20 barrel to practice on.

Barrel is a Rem 700 take off chambered in 30-06. I measured the .415 base on the 30-30 and needed to cut off the 30-06 chamber at the shoulder so it would clean up when I chambered it.

Turned a .300 tapered rod and used that to dial in the bore with the 4 jaw at the chamber end and a spider at the muzzle end.

Changed to using copper shims in the 4 jaw then started turning the O.D. to be concentric with the bore.

Put the Logan in back gear, threaded 18 TPI and chambered to headspace on the shoulder with a .002 gap to the rim.

The barrel was indexed upside down so the roll markings are under the stock. Redrilled the front sight after it was on the action and installed in the stock.

Turned out to be a worthwhile project and a good confidence builder.

An original Savington or Remage? Very nice and I bet it's a shooter.

I really like the 340, they all seem to be good shooters...Out of production for quite awhile...

Those take off 700 barrels are a screaming bargain.

Ha! Sometimes....

I was getting a new takeoff from a seller and tried to get this one thrown in for $10. Guy held out of $20. I got skinned!
This one is shaped like a banana and the bore was certainly cleaned with rocks.

Fortunately the new take off is pristine.

It should be $20 accurate [emoji16]. Really, I've seen some bad looking ones shoot good and vice versa, too. That one would be a lapping project first.

it is not unusual to dial in a barrel and be shocked when you look through it while the spindle is turning.
The bore will flop around like a jump rope.
