Hi all, let's see wether there's any boolit caster out here who is up for a little experiment :)

Please note this is a serious post, see pics, shots taken at 50 yards

Here we go:
a few months ago i bought a 9 mm high power airgun (kinetic energy about 130 footpounds).

here's a link:
http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=307

Now i've been experimenting with various ammo, since the eun jin ammo groups poorly and is way overpriced. Unfortunately it's just a pain to find anything that will fit because of the way the receiver is designed, plus most lead bullets are hard cast.
However i found two types of ammo that work: the .360 hornady roundball and a 100 grain TCFP, with a length of .450, which also is the max length possible. but i'd like to try a few more, so my question is;
Does anybody have moulds or a swage that can cast a soft projectile with a diameter of .357/.358/.359, and a max length of .450?
I'd be happy to try any design, pay for the cost and buy a whole bunch of them if they group well.
Please let me know, best regards,
vincent (san bruno, CA)

Wow, this thing looks cool. I do not have any moulds that would work. My only 358 caliber mould is the 358429 which would be way too long, but there are lots that would work. But please tell us more. I went to the link and it doesn't give much details, I'm intrigued though. How does it work? Looks like a lever action? Is it? With a forend air pump? It is air, right, not CO2? I'm sure someone can help here with a mould, but I would like to see details, this thing looks awesome.
Thanks

By the way, I don't know if it would pose any feeding issues, but I would think that little 358swc 105 grain boolit that lee makes would be great in this. What a great small game round, and quiet.

Lyman had a 358394 domed boolit that was 87 grain...looksa lot like the pellets they sell for it. you can see the molds at:

http://www.three-peaks.net/bullet_molds.htm

this thread has links to a lot of the old and current mould designs:

Good luck

Hi guys, thanks for the quick reply! This gun will produce 130 footpounds with a 70grain pellet 'out of the box', but you can tune them to over 250 footpounds.

I'm not that much of a caster myself, that's why i'm asking for your help, since you guys are most likely way more knowledgable andexperienced :)

You fill the gun either with a special handpump, or a scuba tank, all the way up to 3000PSI, and you'll get about 18 full power shots when stock. (mine gets 12)

with the flat point i can load 4 in the mag. with the roundballs 6. and yup, it's a lever action, originally designed to take deer at closer ranges.

So if there's anybody out there with equipment that can make boolits that will at least fit i'll be happy to try them, and buy larger quantities (providing you're not breakin' my balls) [smilie=1:

oh shoot, almost forgot, projectiles need to be bigger then .356 but no bigger then .359.... (.360 roundball works cause of the small contact surface)

These are 98 gr., .358 dia. and .414 long cast of 92-6-2 alloy. I haven't cast any softer, but they would likely be a little smaller in dia. and a little heavier.

If you think you can use this one send me a PM with your address and I'll get some in the mail. It may be a few days till I can get some soft ones cast though.

When it gets here I could sent you some cast from pure lead. Hard to say when that will be.
