Last week I got a fat 241 lb. sow. I used my 9.3x74R Ruger No.1 loaded with a 250 gr. paper patched bullet. One shot in the neck was all that was needed.

Nah, you don't. I shoot every one I see and wish they were never allowed to get to the point of the population explosion we've seen.

We're getting over run with hogs here in NY. However our stupid state doesn't allow hog hunting. They claim that when you shoot one, the others run away and separate into more families and that increases their numbers.

Cast bullets and Ruger No.1s. Perfect!

stubert. --- You've got to be kidding! That is the dumbest thing I've heard lately, and living here in Maryland, I hear dumb things on a regular basis. Glad I escaped NY back in the '70's. Now I dream of escaping Md.

More prolific than rats or rabbits. Kill everyone you see. They're making more right now.
Good job on that big old girl swine! You just preemptively killed a hundred pigs at least. Classy gun and I like your hat.

At least there is one that won't breed again.....

Here in Alabama one can trap them, but they must be killed before removing them from the trap. Shoot all you want, unless the laws have changed......

Nice gun and nice pig! I personally would love to blast a few hogs with my 336 in 30-30, but we don't have them here in Pa. Yet. Don't know if I'd have the gumption to hunt them with a single shot though. If things get hairy I definitely want a repeater!

Afraid that stumpy little 250 grain pill wouldn't penetrate the chest shield to cause you to take a neck shot? Just giving you a hard time. Good for you on the success and the pork. I found out that eating it quick yields better table fair. The one I shot in Alabama years back didn't last in the freezer very long before it became uneatable.
NY isn't the only state to enact a ban on hunting wild hogs. A friend in Missouri told me he can not longer hunt them in the Ozarks, either.

That's a good one. I like a neck or head shot also, nothing like crawling on hands and knees through the thickets after one, ask me how I know.

LOVE that rifle! I nabbed one a few months ago and was pleasantly surprised at how mild a shooter it is, despite sitting ballistically dead center between a .35 Whelen and a .375 H&H. It has fast become my favorite rifle to shoot.
