This mount was the 3rd generation of the 1st LER mount I ever made for the 1896 Swedish Mauser. Its as low as anything anywhere. Its almost perfect.

What kills the perfection is the lack of ring adjustment and lack of eye relief adjustment. With the NcStar 4x32 handgun scope I had to really lean into it to get a repeatable sight picture. I was not happy.

Top scope is a NcStar 2-7x32 handgun scope. Its probably the most commonly used handgun scope for LER rifle use mainly because its cheap. This was $41 delivered and its a decent scope, clear enough but it is a steel tube and that extra weight changes the balance of the rifle noticeably.

So I was talking with my friend, Ken Buch, who's a small firearms importer some of you may know and he tells me he has a bunch of used scope rings I can have cheap. I'm cheap so I say ok. Most are Weaver "low" rings. This one set was a Swedish-made set with an extension. Soon as I saw it the low wattage lightblub went off in my head. I saw a solution to a problem.

I needed more cross grooves for ring adjustment so I cut a bunch quickly by eyeball.

It did raise the scope. But it also solved the problem of insufficient eye relief.

To show you how dense a Dutchman can really be, I had never considered an extension ring at all. It never crossed my mind. I've studied existing technology (fancy term) and the little 1 watt lightbulb never went off in my head. Until I had the dang thing in my hand.
