BLUF: can you crimp a .327 Federal Magnum round (case length 1.2", bullet diameter .312") with a Lee factory crimp die meant for 7.62 Tokarev (case length .984", bullet diameter .307-.311 depending on manufacturer).
Situation: my dad has come from out of town to do some reloading. We are in a time crunch because he has to leave in half a week. We have a .32 H&R Lee die set, which we have used to seat the .327 bullets beautifully. The problem is, however, that we are completely unable to get the die to roll or taper crimp the longer .327 Fed... seems like there just isn't enough adjustment room, what with the die being designed for a shorter round.
My Dad owns the press and most of the reloading tools, but I own the .327 revolver; once we split, no one will have the materials to complete the load. I guess it would be possible to overnight a .327 Lee Factory Crimp Die, but the Idiot Tax (high shipping) would be severe. Anyone have any experience using Factory Crimp Dies for rounds other than those recommend by the manufacturer?

I don’t quite understand , I use lee 32 s&w long dies and load 32 s&w long 32 h&r and 327 my dies will crimp them all with proper adjustment.

I have used the FCD for 30-30 on 32 Winchester Special. Since the 327 is longer I say try it in the die you have. Adjust it in very small increments and pay close attention. But I don't understand why the 32 H&R die won't work, remove the seating components and try it empty on a loaded round.

I load all my 327 with Lee 32 H&R dies with out any problems.

Like Guesser, I also use 30/30 FCD to crimp 32 Special so I am thinking the diameter will be no problem with your Tokarev crimper. But it is going to put the crimp over .2" too far down from the mouth. Do you have (or can you make) a .2" thick washer to slip over each 327 case for the crimp step?

Thanks for the tips yall. Will re-try crimping with the die I have. I'll update after I try again.

Hey guys. After some experimentation, we managed to put a decent roll crimp on them. Thanks again.238817
