So the gun that never was a 1851 navy colt 44cal. I've had a few of these and they always seem to slip away before I ever get to shot them. Gun show comes up and I sell to get something else you know an extra few bucks to bump you up to next gun or great throw in trading gun. So I ordered a new one a this one I think is a beaut. I really bought it and was going to put in the white or age it to look old. Saw it in the pic on line and figured yeah right they never look like that when they come. I'm thinking this one did so she is going through a slick up and be shooting real soon. Thank you pietta I was feeling this in my hand and I thought man this feels right! Looked at the grip and not like the pietta of old with a tail on bottom....that's right they redid the grip. Went and grabbed some grips that came off my 2nd gen saa and bam they fit. So next I'm ordering up the 36 and hope they put them on there to.

I also have one of the 1851-.44's, and you're spot on that the older ones aren't as attractive as the new production. Mine was purchased about 12 years ago, and is not nearly as attractive as the one shown in your photo. I do have a new (last year) Pietta 1851-.36 that I bought on sale last year from Midway. Beautiful revolver, certainly the equal of a Uberti in every way.
