Moodyholler,

BCB wrote an article about his .32 Colt 1892 Marlin. Its under articles on the old board.... the last one listed. http://cast_boolits.aimoo.com

The .32 Colt uses a heeled bullet.

Picture of the bullets / cartridges in BCB's article:

Left: Standard .32 Long Colt. Unfortunately, it is obsolete and hasn't been made for about 20 years. The .32 Short Colt cartridge is still in production though. I found a few boxes of the .32 Longs at a gun show for $20.00 box so there are still some around. Uncle Jack has .32 Colt brass converted from .32 S&W. http://www.uncle-jack.com/shooters.htm

Center: Current heeled bullet from NEI to be used in the standard .91" long case.

Right: Ideal 299153 bullet - original, obsolete bullet, but also available from Uncle Jack. http://www.uncle-jack.com/shooters.htm

This bullet should be used in a .78" long case like the original to be the proper o.a.l. Go to http://www.uncle-jack.com/shooting.htm and scroll to the bottom to see a 25 yard group fired with this bullet in his reformed cases.

I also have a .32 Colt 1892 Marlin and will write more about my adventures with reloading for it when I have time in the next day or so.

I seem to recall that Rapine makes a hollow-based .32 mold. Otherwise, they (and the heeled-bullet counterparts) are infrequently found at gun shows.

You can change out the firing pin and try some of that Brazilian .32 Long Rimfire that Navy Arms imports while you await developments on the centerfire casting and loading front. It doesn't do so well in my somewhat pitted Ballard and Stevens rifles, but was surprisingly accurate in a friends S&W #1 revolver and his friends Marlin .32 rifle.

..............FYI if anyone has a use, but GPC has NOS Marlin 32 barrels 26" long I think for a surprisingly inexpensive price. Octagon I believe.

Bent Ramrod, Buckshot, thank you for the additional info.

Regarding the .32 Long Colt in a rifle, I found this info in th 1932 & 1940 Shooters Bibles.........90 gr. bullet .....1075 f.p.s. b.p. / 945 smokeless.

Early Ideal catalogs recommend 2.0 grs. of Bullseye or 12 grs. of b.p.

Personally, I like 2.5 grs. of 231 for 1050 f.p.s. I also like a capacity load of H4227 for 1,250 f.p.s.

I will try and get some pictures of one I reworked for a friend. It was a Marlin 92 in 32 rim or center fire and I had to rebuild the center fire firing pin and I rechambered it to 32 S and W. It will feed both short and longs and is a dandy squirrel gun. Shorts run right at 750 from the 24" bbbl. and longs run 1100. We went with the S and W round as the owner had the reloading stuff and a tonof brass. The only real difference is the diameter of the case.
