we have been getting pounded by a snow storm every week for some time now
it makes getting out to shoot and hunt more difficult
I have my own range and it does not get plowed so I have to count on my 4x4 to get me back into the woods to my range though the snow, been stuck twice so far.I carry a snow blower in the back of my truck to clear snow and a set of tractor tire chains for traction if needed.
testing new loads is getting harder to do and hunting is out of the question at least until some snow melts
walking for miles in knee deep snow is out of the question for me at this time now when I was younger I would not be bothered so much by it but age changes alot of things
you all in snow country getting snow?
I hear global warming is causing this cold and snow :-D

We had a super mild winter with almost no snow until about three weeks ago, then it became every few days we would get more snow.

About two feet on the ground now. Went out to my range to try and shoot yesterday and it was knee deep and just not worth it.

I hate off-roading in snow; it's worse than mud and you can get stuck with no warning.

My dad is having issues down in Arizona and is wanting to drive back with his pickup and RV and I told him he can't get into his house and should just stay put. He won't listen and will be headed back in a couple of weeks.

Sitting here in the house watching the snow fall in South Central Pennsylvania.
8" on the ground and the forecast is for more snow and then changing over to freezing rain and then plain rain.

White eagle, I'm about 210 miles east of Wall Drug, and I'm sick of this every other day snow also. At least the wind blows 45 mph every few days so it drifts back in the places we just plowed out, like the drive ways, cow yards and feed yards. I haven't shot a cast bullet since deer season, and probably won't until spring comes in July

This year we had about 10" of snow up till a week and half ago. That's 10" in Nov to Feb. Usually have 25 or so up till then. We got an 8" snow three days ago, followed by another 8" last night. They are guessing about anther 6" Friday into Saturday then it might get serious on Tuesday with more snow.
I guess I picked a good time to retire.

I'm loving it, I have all summer to be miserable in the heat. I don't think MN has had snow like this since about 2009ish, maybe 2011. It sure is a nice change considering we didn't get any snow that didn't melt within a week from 2013-2018. It's amazing we have so many snowmobile company's here. My shooting range is a cut out next to the crow river though, and has flooded in the past. We've made improvements since it last flooded back I think 2014-2015. I'm concerned this may be another bad year. Once it floods, there is no shooting there for at least a couple months.

started out a fairly mild winter and then it turned. Probably more snow here then any year I remember. You aren't getting into my shooting range unless you take a snowmobile. My neighbor tried opening it up with his tractor and snow blower but gave up. Just to much heavy wet snow. Right now the snow drifts on the north and west sides of my house are over the windows! Not as bad as some of the winters in the 70s we had but enough is enough. I want spring!

No snow at the new house in Texas but it’s been plenty wet. We drove from NM to Houston two days ago and the ground appeared saturated most of the way. We used the windshield wipers all the way. We bought the house in September and the yard has been squishy since then. It may dry out in May since Spring is usually wet.

Us in the South have not had the snow that you Northern guys are getting but everyone seems to be having a worse than normal winter. We don't get much snow but our worst enemy is freezing rain. It can cause power outages that last for a week or more and makes travel really treacherous. People around here can't drive very well in good weather. Bad weather makes for lots of accidents.

Broke the atv winch bracket on my plow the other day on an 18 year old plow. Found the $5 discontinued part for a $156 on amazon and $95 on eBay. Bartered and got it for $40 shipped. Doesn’t look like it will be here for our next snow...tomorrow, Sunday, and a couple days next week. There is a snowbank about 6’5” blocking half my driveway! Wonder how many deer and turkey didn’t make it through the last couple weeks. Between the cold burst we had a few weeks ago and all the snow it pretty much has ended my small game hunting for the season. My property is a ridge line and I don’t feel like walking up it to bag a few starving squirrels. Haven’t been to the range either. Just keep loading boolits till a little melt off.

Could get another foot tomorrow night. We've had close to four feet since just before Christmas. Some has melted down, but turns to glaciers with temperatures making it barely above freezing in the daytime. People keep telling me they didn't think it snowed in the desert. They don't realize that NM has mountains. I'm at 7200 ft. I've had enough of winter. You can't hire a teenager to shovel anymore either.

I changed my mind about posting any pics right now. Supposed to have 4-8 more inches come Sat. Night thru Sunday. I don't want any more reminders of the stuff.

I like the 4 seasons. I just don't like the way they arrive some times. I prefer the regular "ease" into & out of things.

The "roller coaster" in temps & precipitation in the recent past is not on my list of favorite things to deal with ... That goes for Year round, not just for Winter...

BTW... I HATE ice patches hidden under snowfalls... With a passion....

Much sympathy is what I feel after reading three pages of snow happenings. A couple of days early on we had a light frost here in Conroe Texas. Many days of light rain that really soaked in. In other posts, I mentioned getting my truck stuck at the deer lease and left it there two nights while getting a new Winch rigged to use from the front or rear. Off the roads it was very spongy, as your feet sunk about six inches in the woods and in my back yard. We have lived here since the year 2000 and had rains over six inches each day for three days and it was never as soggy as it has been this winter. On the lighter side, it was easy tilling the garden. I have several containers planted and five rows planted with above ground veatables. Saturday is the first day of the month for root crops which I will plant. It is possible that we get freezing weather around Easter, and should it do so I will replant. Can you picture an 84 year old with nothing on except a pair of overalls and breaking a sweat while running the front tine tiller?

We had a blizzard here in Central WA two weeks ago tomorrow. 1800 dairy cows died in it. Another 1800 are said to have to slaughtered because their udders froze. The dairy folks worked 36 hours straight and built wind breaks out of big bales of straw but when they tried to move their cows to the improvised shelters the cows just sulked up.

We rarely get heavy winds during a cold snap and heavy snow thrown in. This storm packed gusts up to 80 mph in the more exposed areas where some of the affected dairies are located. Fortunately no people were injured or killed while they desperately tried to save their cows.

Even with all of the snow in February, which is setting a lot of records, our snowpack in the mountains is still not good. Only 76% and 78% of normal.

That means with a forecasted hotter and drier Summer, we are in for a bad fire season. Hopefully, our Spring is a wet one.

Dang! That is serious weather! I used to live in North Central Iowa and took county roads to get to my job at a feed mill. Drove a `98 Chevy 2wd pickup with AT tires on the back and 400lbs of sandbags in the bed. Some pretty hairy moments trying to bust through snow drifts at 55mph after a storm with high winds.

I now live in farm country out West and the road to work is a rural 2-lane blacktop through rolling hills that was closed a couple of weeks ago due to drifting. I now drive a 2005 GMC Yukon 4wd with a slight lift and Goodyear Duratrac tires. I can get through most anything now...

My biological father and his third wife were wintering down in Arizona in their RV when she declared she wanted a divorce last week. He called me and said he was heading home this weekend with the RV back to Idaho.

I told him that he wasn't going to be able to get his RV back to his place; at least two feet of snow on the ground. I strongly urged him to stay put another month since he couldn't even get his spare pickup and car out of the shop due to snow. He didn't listen.

Heading for record snowfall in parts of MN. Where I am it would have to double to reach the 90+ inches in 96/97... but pushing 48 inches total and it is snowing again...

Just south of you. Right at 50”. Breaking the record in the next couple weeks according to forcasts.

I certainly do feel for you guys who are getting the unusual snows. We've got between 4 and 6 feet of accumulation depending on where you're standing from a little over 100 inches fallen so far this winter.
However, it's not that far off from normal for here.

Up here in Aroostook County we are on a record pace for total snowfall. 147 inches so far at NWS Caribou with another 6 weeks or so of our winter left. The current record is from 2007-2008 and was a bit more than 197 inches.

Its 61 and sunny here. I think we had 2 inches of snow for the entire winter.
Life is good:)

Got another few inches today. I go in at 6pm for a 12hr shift and supervisor called and said local cops are asking people to stay home. Said I could stay home since I live 14 miles away in a small town and my highway closes occasionally due to snow drifts.

Told him that I would be ashamed of myself for calling into work due to a few inches of snow. Apparently, the cops are overwhelmed with accidents due to the local college having 30k+ idiots going there who don't know how to drive.

With about 2' of snow on the ground and temps in the low 20's, I consider this to be a normal winter and pretty much perfect. Love it!

I'll gladly put up with the white stuff to avoid all of the bugs, snakes, humidity, and Californians the rest of the year.

We just had an employee meltdown a couple of weeks ago. Moved here from California in November. His wife refused to come with him. He got his car stuck, then tried to steal a couple other cars, then tried to jump the fence at the airport. Snow and cold got to him. Good riddance.

this is big snow country up here. We allways get more them most areas around us. Were used to it but this year its the worse I remember since I moved here in 87. Had a first yesterday. couldn't get a signal on my dish receiver. Tried reseting it nothing. went out and brushed the snow and chipped the ice off of it, nothing. Was about to call dish and have them trouble shoot it when I realized the over 3 feet of snow on the roof of my garage was blocking the dish mounted on a pole beside it. Also did a bit of panicing when I realized the boxed in eaves of my garage were sagging in the middle from the weight. Took me most of the day to shovel it. Wasn't just snow but layers of soft snow and frozen slush. tried my fancy dandy sno slide (which is basically a slip and slide on a pole) but couldn't get it to budge 6 inches into the hard packed base. Im not one to complain about winter but can you southern guys PLEASE send up a bit of heat. Suppose to be more snow and zero temps this weekend.

Lloyd -- sounds like we're living in parallel universes. I've got about 4 ft. of snow on the ground now, and a bit over a foot on the roof. I've been out everyday raking some off, but it looks like a few clear-partially cloudy days coming up, and a corresponding night time drop in temperatures. I'm hoping that the snow will freeze off the roof. Yesterday the Dish signal went out. I tried the reset procedure several times, and ended up calling their customer support. Talked with a nice young lady, no accent at all, so I asked her where she was located. Mexico City. Said that her father had a US work permit and she and her brother attended grammar and middle school in Texas until their father decided to return to Mexico working for Dish with a fairly good paying job, an attending a university where a second language is required, so she has it made. I thought it was a great story as some legal immigrants went home and made good. The upshot was that because I've been a customer for years they're sending out a tech on Saturday to give me a new receiver box and readjust the antenna dish. I suspect I knocked it out of whack brushing it off three or four times a day with a broom when the snow would cut the signal. Problem is, I've got to plow the lane before Saturday so the guy can get in to fix it. Anyway, I'm not complaining at all -- I moved here with my eyes wide open. I don't mind the snow. Just have lots of firewood and an indoor hobby to keep you busy. And the rest of the year -- what a wonderful place to live.

Hi...
The weather liars are calling for another snowstorm here in South Central Pennsylvania tonight.
2-4" with as much as 5" in some places.
Just another nuisance to me since I am retired.
Probably have to run the snowblower to clear the driveway. Not looking forward to shoveling the sidewalk and deck, either.
My wife insists she is going to work tomorrow, so I will need to get the snow cleared before she gets home.

I think I am ready for spring and warm weather.

Yeah... I am unsubscribing to this topic. I don't need one bit of reminder about snow.

I like my "Winter", I just don't like "roller-coaster rides" in temps, ice hidden under snow & knowing that this snow pileup, with the frost driven as deep as it is(2-4 ft.), causes increased chance of flooding, which can usually make for poor fishing most of the time, when Spring that finally hits...

Ya'll have fun, but I am "out of here" in this topic. I would rather be optimistic on good things to come.

Sunday through Tuesday my brother spent busting drifts up to 5' north of Dodge City with the county road grader. Now, another 6" and wind whipping it up to 6' drifts predicted. So far this year he has not got that big Cat powered grader with chains stuck. Not yet .... Maybe it can get worse.

same here. Over by mackinaw city and st Ignace the roads were drifted over so deep and hard from snow blowing off the lake that they had to close that section of us2 for two days because the plows couldn't even get through. they had to bring in blowers even from other countys to open it back up. plow driver on the news said drifts were almost as high as the hood on his county plow truck in places and so hard you could walk right up them. did I tell you I am now officially sick of winter!

This year I've been sick of Winter since it started raining in Sept. It never used to affect me much, but it's been almost constant and it's made age related problems much worse.
Thank God, I've survived and Spring will soon be bursting forth. In another 90 days we'll be fussing about the heat. At least that will calm down the Arthritis, while stopping up our senses with pollen.

Hi...
Shoveled another 3-4" of snow again thisorning.
Two days in a row and now the weather liars are predicting snow Sunday afternoon into Monday.
1-3", or 2-4" or 6-10" or maybe more or less. May get some ice and rain mixed in or not...they really are covering all the bases.

Guess I will just deal with it Monday...Oh, joy!!!

Hi...
I live in South Central Pennsylvania.
We got another 6" of global warming last night and the weather liars are forecasting lows in the teens the next few nights.

I need to go out and move all this global warming off the driveway with the snowblower.
Already cleared the deck...
I will shovel the walk around the house after I run the snowblower.

Getting a bit tired of winter.

Hey, Miz Mary, that's not too good for your health. Don't you have an alternative heat source like a woodstove or kerosene heater? Being cold isn't any fun!!

Talked to my daughter today. She moved to Kansas at Christmas time. Lives near Leavenworth. was 0* this morning. She is a Southern California girl that doesn't do well with 60* weather. She has been told that Kansas is nice in the Spring and Fall. Cold in winter hot in summer.

Been pretty mild here this winter until 4 days ago. Got 30 inches in 2 days then the wind blew 40 mph and locked everything solid. Now we have highs of 0 and this morning was -30. -18 now.

Hi...
Cold front came through last afternoon and evening.
16°F when I got up at 6:30AM.
Just a bit chilly...
Supposed to be colder the next few mornings.
Glad that I don't need to go out in the cold other than to exercise the Labrador Retrievers.

10 inches or so of the pretty white stuff fell Monday. It wasn't very cold so the snow was fairly heavy (heart attack snow). I went out, started the old faithful snowblower and was chugging along just fine until a blue tarp that was hidden under the snow wrapped itself around the blades. Two sheer pins broke and the axle popped out of its side holder. I cut the tarp away and forced the axle back into its track, then replaced one sheer pin. The second sheer pin broke off flush with the axle on both sides, and I could not see its remnants to pop out and replace it. After an hour or so of laying in the snow, in the vacinity of my dog's toilet, trying to find the broken sheer pin hole (I even tried drilling it out), I finished snow blowing with three of the four blades spinning. By then the sun was out and melting had begun. I am so sick of winter that I told my wife that if I drop in the snow, she only has to remember three letters: DNR.

No snow a'tall, but mighty cold for Arkansas. 14 degrees yesterday morning. Ain't a bit used to it. Keeping an illegal 100 watt bulb on in the pump house. I guess they are still illegal, even though Zero is out of office?

Normally backup heat with the pellet stove but I am mid battery bank replacement so no backup power. Turned 2 stove burners on and it brought house temp up 5 degrees fast. I slept through half of it LOL I get up around noon being a night owl... bedroom is upstairs south side of the house so it was still 70 up there. I have spent a lot of time and money insulating and draft proofing this house and it pays off during something like that. Neighbor came over because her house was down to 40...
