I have a 22-3000 2-R Lovell and I have 2 .22 molds. I have 225438 and the 55 gr. RCBS mold. Does anyone have any suggested loads for this cartridge that I could use as a starting place for load development?
Thanks,
Bob

What is the case capacity? I am too lazy to look into it for you. Fill it full to bottom of neck with a ball powder and let me know how many grains. ... felix

The older books like Sharpes and Naramores are full of loads for the 2r, etc. Might look there and extrapolate for modern powders.

From Whelan:

8.0 - 4227 or SR4759 or 2400 - 1750 fps with the 225438 "Squirrel and grouse load"

From Waters:

9.0 - SR4759 with the 225438

3.2 - Unique with the 255438

From Lyman:

43-gr. Lead Gas Check (no mould number given)

10.0 to 11.8 - 2400 - 1950 to 2350 fps

8.0 to 10.0 - 4227- 1750 to 2350 fps (IMR4227)

8.0 to 10.3 - SR4759 - 1850 to 2380 fps

3.0 - Unique - 1300 fps

55-gr. Lead Gas Check (no mould number given)

11.0 to 14.0 - 2400 - 1870 to 2300 fps

12.0 to 14.5 - 4227- 1900 to 2300 fps

12.0 to 12.3 - SR4759 - 2150 to 2300 fps

14.0 to 16.0 - 4198 - 2100 to 2400 fps (IMR4198)

C.E. Harris, writing in The Fouling Shot says that modern 2400 is much faster than the old canister lots and pre-1990 load data (which the above is) should be reduced 15% if the new Alliant version is used.

I would be very conservative in loading until you know how the rifle reacts, since this wildcat was never standardized to the extent some of the others were (P.O. Ackley).

Good luck and post your results.
