A few years ago I got a new iPhone. I found it had a new “burst” mode. At first I found it really annoying because it just sucked up my storage. I looked into it and found it takes about 10 photos per second.

One night I was out shooting at dusk and saw a prominent flash as we we shooting. I remembered the burst mode on my camera and gave it a try. Here’s the result.

236132
236133
236134

The first one is a 38 S&W 638, the second is 357 mag S&W 686, and the third is a 308. This summer I’d like to try my 1911 45.

The key is the light level. Even with burst mode, it takes a few tries to catch it. If your camera has a similar feature, give it a try.

Gee-whiz is there a barrel on that 686!!
It might be from the angle, but is some of that the cylinder gap?

Czech_to - good eye, there is a quite large cylinder gap. Most of what you can see is from the gap. This was a 686 Pro Series with a 5” slab side barrel. When I shot it, it had an awkward twisting kick to it. I’m guessing it was from the rifling and the inertia from accelerating the spin on the bullet combined with a relatively light weight barrel. Not knowing much about completion guns, maybe that’s the way it was supposed to be. Bottom line, it wasn’t much fun to shoot. For those reasons I traded it for a 45ACP 1911, which I enjoy shooting much better!

Cool.
I had a 6" S&W 586 with a very 'generous' cylinder gap too. I guess that's normal for them.

Catch that flash with loads of a slow powder coming out a short barrel. It's impressive!
