Heavy Bullets in .35Remington?

Thinking here of Lyman 358318 or Saeco 352. Glen Fryxell loaded the latter in a Marlin. Has anyone here tried a 245-250 grainer (cast) in 35 Remington?

Would be curious to learn loads, accuracy, etc, especially if you were going slow. Mr. Fryxell reported 31-32 grain charges of IMR 3031 and AA2520 gave velocities of about 1900 fps. For the time being, I have no interest in moving that fast, but don't have a clue about where to start.

If maximum COAL is held, bullet base on the Lyman 358318 will extend slightly below the case neck. Similar on Saeco 352, which GF apparently did not find to be a problem.

There is a member on marlinowners forum that modifies Marlin lever actions in 35 Rem and 444 Marlin and calls them safari grade rifles. He basically throats the chamber to except long cast bollits and modifies the carrier to allow a longer OAL of the cartridge.
He claims to shoot 310 gr. Cast at 2150 fps from his 35 Rem.
I own a Marlin 336 SC from 1950 and haven't started loading for it so I don't even know what the twist rate is in the barrel is. When I do start loading for it I would be most interested in bollits 225 gr. And heavier also.

Jedman, I only get about 2150 FPS with a NOE 360-310 FN (35 Thumper) 310gr. from my 35 Whelen with full loads of slow to medium powders. If someone claims to do the same with a 35 Rem, call them on it. The bullet is half the size of the case!

You guys might want to look into the NOE 360-230 RD at 230gr. It's available with a HP cavity.

Mine isnt quite as heavy as you mentioned but cast and shoot a 238-240gr LFN boolit in my 35 Remington levergun. The mold is an Accurate 36-230F
No issues with feeding and no alterations have been made to the rifle.

That's close enough. Do you mind sharing load information? Are you shooting any loads less than 1400-1500 fps? Thanks.

In regard to the Safari grade rifle post.....Just a thought here, if you lengthen the throat to allow for a long bullet he may not be altering the case capacity a whole lot if any. Personally I think changing case capacity will drive pressures up faster than bullet weight.
Like I said, just a thought.
I would like to know what powder hes using for the “safari grade” rifles

After re-reading over this thread, I dont see how the 310gr and the claimed velocity is possible either.

For what's it's worth,
I did a little snooping over on the Marlin Owners site.
Found a picture of the loaded Safari Grade 265gr & 310gr rounds:

The moulds came from our friend Tom at Accuratemolds.
The brass is reformed Lake City 7.62 from another friend, Grumpa. Supposed to be more "robust" than standard 35 Rem brass.
I was unable to find any load data.
All of the posted questions about pressure testing went unanswered.

You can make more robust 35 rem from lc 7.62? Never thought of it...just run it through the .308 sizer?

No, there’s more to it than that. I don’t know what Matt’s process was but I bought a bunch of brass from him. Was easier than making it myself which I had no desire to do.

Grumpa's brass should have no problem holding 65,000psi but I am skeptical that the 310gr 35Rem's getting 2150fps at only 65ksi unless it's a spectacularly long barrel.

On topic: I've been wanting to run hollow pointed 250-300+ projectiles subsonic with Trailboss in a Contender Carbine but I haven't found the factory carbine barrel or ponied up the dough for a custom barrel... yet. ;)

Still would have to see this shot over a chrono and stay within safe pressure levels to believe it , the 35 ain't a large capacity case even with ball powder 40-44grs max is all your gonna fit in it your not gonna get that speed with a heavy bullet unless your using a fairly fast powder and then up up up go your pressures rather quickly especially with a bullet 110 grs heavier than normal even if don't take up Lot of space because it's seated long it's still double the weight than the norm . Just don't see it happening
