I have no personal experience with this powder. But I have done buisness with Widners for over 15 years and NEVER had a problem with their powder, primers, or jacket bullets. If they sell it they will stand by it. When I get back up there I will be re-supplying from them.

Here's my thought process on this powder. I'm confident it is a good powder and probably meters well, but they provide loading data for only one bullet weight in each of three calibers. Anything else you'll have to work up on your own. W231 is about $30 more per keg but loads at a lower charge for the same velocity listed, plus there is a ton of load data for W231. Titegroup is $17 more for a keg and also loads at lower charge weights and also has a lot of published data. I don't think you'll save any money in the long run over the 2 powders I've mentioned, plus you lose a lot of versatility. However, if you enjoy tinkering with new powders and working up loads just for the sake of doing it, I'd say go for it.

I live within a few miles of wideners and they have made it so difficult to deal with them that I have given up. They either are not open when normal working folk can get there, they advertise products they don't have in stock in their sales listings, or they are just plain unfriendly. I used to shop there almost exclusively, but have given up and started buying my supplies elsewhere. I decided to give them one more chance here awhile back only to be sworn at by the clerk, I'm done with em.

I haven't been sworn at by their clerks (they've always been nice), but it sure is hard to find them open. During hunting season they're likely to be gone when their sign says they're supposed to be open. And when they're open, there's often a long double line filling the store. So I doubt they'll miss us if we swear off shopping there. But I wish they were more convenient.

From the loads they give, it sounds like it's in the class with AA #5, doesn't it?

I had it figured for Power Pistol. Being a spherical, I figured st. Charles - maybe a Winchester offshoot.

St. Marks?

Yeah, no doubt. Ball powder for 4756, Herco speed. It looks like it from the three loads on the bottle. 11 grains of this stuff should be about perfect for nominal 44 maggie boolits for mid-range velocity with superb accuracy. I would jump on it when I needed it. ... felix

St. Marks?

I had the right idea, wrong Saint. Ricochet is right :)

Nah, St. Charles is close enough. Why? Because Olin is in St. Louis, east side. St. Charles is too, but on the west side.

Not only that, I bet that powder was meant for 22LR, High Velocity. There are over a million rounds loaded every day with that same speed of powder. ... felix
