I had an opportunity to purchase a TC Encore rifle barrel chambered in 45-70 Gov't on the cheap from a fellow forum member back in 2017. I had always wanted a 45-70 single shot pistol (I like recoil lol) so I decided this was my opportunity. I had a spare 30cal muzzle brake laying around so I figured I would modify that to work. I took a deer with it in the winter of 2017. It is fun to shoot and handles full power loads surprisingly well. Barrel ended up at 13". Now every time I see a big bore rifle Encore rifle barrel come up for sale on the board I get the itch LOL! Here is what I came up with.

No pictures, but the muzzle brake was threaded on and bored all in the same setup.

I have a Contender handgun and one of my barrels is a Virgin Valley in 45-70. Love it! It shoots a Lee 405 RNFP over 70 grains of fake black really well and recoil is not bad at all. Big bore handguns are a gas.

I had a 14" Contender in 45-70. Quite the cannon.

I hear you 44mag#1 - Contenders and Encores have a much lower hand to bore line - makes em "feel" like they kick harder. I'd rather shoot my Smith 500.

Groo here
I have an SSK 45-70 contender barrel magnaported.
The difference between them and others is the chamber is cut for
Hornady 458 -500gr bullets crimped at the crimp groove...
Factory 300gr are easy, 405 gr loads push, but the 500 KICKS,shocks the air and cause small earth quakes.!!!
The correct hand placement and rubber material grip are a must...
And the most accurate load must be the 500gr one.
You would think there is radar in that thing....
