I see that quite a few peeps recommend AA7 and another quite a few peeps recommend AA9...

I see that A2400 is right between these - anyone use this for .357 sig?

I'll say right up front that I've never reloaded for the Sig. But there are some folks here (led down the rosy path by Outpost75) that have used 2400 in as small as .32 ACP. It's a very versatile powder. Was me, I'd try it.

I have never tried 2400 in .357sig and I have not heard of others using it for their .357sig loads. However Longshot and AA#9 are pretty popular powders for .357sig. The #9 loads are usually compressed loads which helps to prevent setback. Longshot is not compressed but works quite well in the sig. Looking at the burn rate chart 2400 is smack dab in the middle of Longshot and #9. i'd give the 2400 a shot. Wish I had load data to share but I can't recall seeing it for 2400. If you have quickload that would likely give you and idea what charge to use with your bullet.

This is what I'm thinking. I already load 2400 for a couple cartridges, but I also load w296 for the same cartriges... It might be a good time to switch! ;) It's all hypothetical since I don't have the gun yet, just thinking about it.

Anyone have any opinions on molds? I'm leaning toward Accurate since they will make it without the lube grooves if you ask.

Slower powders are not the best in the 357 sig, it was designed for shorter barrel pistols. I use 800x in mine.

I only used AA#7 in my .357 Sig but I think faster powders would be better for shorter barrels.

I have used most powders that work in the lil sig.

I like Longshot, blue dot, #7 & 9 and 800X. Pretty much in that order. #7&9 will do the lions share of loads. Longshot, Blue and 800 for top loads.

2400 is a ol school powder that can do allot, but there are better, cleaner, faster powders. If you have it use it, it can work. I bought out a bunch of 22KHornet stuff from a shop that did. Ot know what it was and wasnt gonna sell because it was all handloads. I promices to breakdown and bought all for pittance. The man who loaded these was VERY GOOD & I could have fired off all no issues.
In box was documentation and pulled loads where spot on accurate. I found can of 2400 powder and I saved all his powder. I will be able to shoot 40g Noslers & Bergers for the rest of my life.

I have been shooting more 2400 because if it. I probably tore down 2-3# plus couple more that was in the big cardboard tube.

I like it in .357 mag and .45 Colt
Classic powder for cast bullets
Also can be used in .300 Blackout
I don’t understand the post above.
Sure there are faster powders, but 2400 does not compete in the space.
It is a fantastic handgun powder
Next level, slower powders, would be 110/296 and MP300
I would not use it in .357 Sig
When there are powder shortages, it will be gone fast. Very popular.

The only reason AA#9 works is it is a ball powder & you can get enough in the small case to give good vel. I doubt you get enough 2400 into the case to give good vel. Will it go bang, sure, but not ideal.

Well sort of. You can get good vel with safe pressures using AA#9. It is quite popular with 357sig shooters. Just me, but 800x is such a pita to meter, not on my list for anything.
Good powders for high end 357sig; Longshot, AA#7&9, BlueDot, PowerPistol, maybe BE86, but haven't tried it yet. of course anything can be loaded for low to midrange, like any other service round.

As others have said, there's probably not enough room in the case for enough powder to reach full potential. AA#9, Power Pistol or 800-X are better choices. I'm eventually going to try BE86 because I bought some on sale and it's said to be essentially Power Pistol except without the fireball.

So, I have the barrel, but sadly will be waiting on the firearm for some time (I live in California) before I can actually shoot anything.
I bought a lb of Blue Dot, AA7 and AA9. I figure I'll ladder each of them to see what I like.
Also the AA7 and AA9 may work with my Tokarev, so we will see what works with what. This hobby is interesting.
